Job Summary:
The In-Room Dining Server is responsible for providing exceptional service to hotel guests by delivering food and beverages directly to their rooms. This role involves taking orders, ensuring timely delivery, and maintaining high standards of presentation and service. The In-Room Dining Server will collaborate with kitchen staff, housekeeping, and management to ensure a seamless and positive guest experience, while adhering to quality, safety, and cleanliness standards.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Order Taking & Guest Interaction:
- Take food and beverage orders from guests via phone, in-room tablet systems, or personal interaction, ensuring all guest requests are accurately noted.
- Provide detailed descriptions of menu items, including ingredients, preparation methods, and potential allergens, assisting guests in making informed decisions.
- Offer suggestions for upselling additional items such as beverages, appetizers, and desserts to enhance the guest experience.
- Ensure that all special requests or dietary restrictions are communicated clearly to the kitchen and met promptly.
- Food & Beverage Delivery:
- Deliver food and beverages to guest rooms in a timely manner, ensuring the correct order and presentation.
- Present food and beverages with a high standard of professionalism, ensuring all items are neatly plated and appropriately garnished.
- Ensure that orders are delivered in accordance with hotel standards, including proper temperature, portion size, and presentation.
- Set up and arrange trays or carts with food and beverages, condiments, utensils, and glassware as per guest preferences or hotel guidelines.
- Collect any dirty dishes, trays, or service items from the room after meals, ensuring the room is left tidy.
- Guest Service & Satisfaction:
- Provide exceptional guest service by addressing requests and concerns with courtesy and professionalism, ensuring guest satisfaction.
- Anticipate guest needs and proactively offer assistance, ensuring an enhanced in-room dining experience.
- Handle guest complaints or concerns related to in-room dining with tact and professionalism, ensuring swift resolution to maintain guest satisfaction.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality and respect for guest privacy at all times.
- Room Setup & Maintenance:
- Prepare and organize trays, carts, and service areas prior to service, ensuring that all items are clean and properly arranged.
- Maintain a clean and organized in-room dining cart or tray throughout service.
- Ensure all necessary condiments, beverages, and other essentials are available and presented appropriately with the meal.
- Ensure that in-room dining items are stored and handled in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Health & Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to all food safety, health, and sanitation standards when handling food and beverages, including proper storage, handling, and delivery.
- Ensure that all food and beverages are delivered within the specified timeframes to maintain freshness and quality.
- Ensure the cleanliness of trays, carts, and service items before and after each use.
- Follow all hotel safety procedures, including the proper use of in-room dining equipment and cleaning supplies.
- Communication & Coordination:
- Communicate effectively with kitchen staff to ensure accuracy in order preparation and timing of delivery.
- Relay any special requests, dietary restrictions, or guest preferences to kitchen staff to ensure a tailored in-room dining experience.
- Coordinate with housekeeping and front desk staff to ensure that guest room access and service timing align with guest preferences and the hotel’s operational schedule.
- Report any maintenance issues or discrepancies in room setups or guest requests to management promptly.
- Inventory & Stock Management:
- Monitor inventory levels for in-room dining supplies, including trays, glassware, napkins, condiments, and utensils.
- Notify management or housekeeping of low inventory levels to ensure timely replenishment.
- Ensure that in-room dining equipment is properly maintained, cleaned, and stored after use.
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in a food and beverage service role, preferably in room service or hospitality, is preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and proper handling techniques is beneficial.
- Ability to use in-room dining systems or basic point-of-sale (POS) systems.
Skills/Specialized Knowledge
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage professionally and courteously with guests.
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to anticipate guest needs and provide personalized experiences.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently, ensuring timely delivery and service while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Knowledge of in-room dining menu offerings and the ability to describe them clearly to guests.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly regarding order accuracy, presentation, and guest requests.
- Basic math and cash-handling skills for processing transactions when necessary.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during shifts.
- Ability to lift and carry trays, carts, or food items weighing up to [specified weight].
- Ability to bend, reach, and stoop as required to deliver and collect service items.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with the flexibility to handle multiple guest orders simultaneously.
