Under the direction of the Athletic Coordinator, the candidate will work outdoors in a natural resource setting. They will perform a wide range of maintenance projects on city athletic facilities including natural grass sports fields, baseball/softball fields, and tennis/pickleball courts.
JOB SUMMARYThis will include but not limited to the following:
Perform light to heavy physical labor on a variety of athletic facility maintenance and repair projects, which involves physical exertion and the operation of lightweight motorized equipment.
Remove trash in parks, on trails, and in open space areas.
Perform labor using hand tools such as hoses, shovels, rakes, and tampers.
Carry out infield dragging and leveling, cleaning, rock and debris removal, base and pitchers mound installation, chalking, and field painting.
Assist with mowing operations, including mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing.
Assist with weed control, including pulling/cutting weeds and applying herbicides.
Maintain and clean equipment daily, ensuring tools are properly cared for and stored in the appropriate area.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONSApplicants must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Non-Driving positions: Must be at least 16 years of age by date of hire.
Driving positions: Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire. High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) required by date of hire.
One to three months related experience and/or training in field maintenance, landscaping, or general outdoor labor required. Background in the sport of baseball and/or softball, and methods, materials, and equipment necessary for ball field maintenance activities strongly preferred and may be considered in lieu of working experience. Interest in natural resource management preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
18 or over driving positions only: Must possess a valid driver's license and have a good driving record.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables. Ability to carry out assigned tasks proficiently.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to operate a small truck, tractor, utility vehicle, and a variety of tools.
MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
Small truck, shovel, rake, tractor, utility vehicle, tamper, field drag, tape measure, bases, chalk, paint, hammer, mowers, and guide string.
