The City of O'Fallon, MO is looking to hire full-time Utility Worker II for our Collections Crew. Are you looking for a position where you'll build on your knowledge of water and sewer systems? Our Utility Workers earn competitive hourly rates from $ 26.48 to $ 39.73 (top of grade). The expected starting salary is $26.48 hourly. Generally, your schedule will be daytime hours Monday through Friday, but overtime hours may be required occasionally.
As part of our Water and Sewer Division, you will be responsible for a wide variety of vital tasks that keep our community thriving. This role involves troubleshooting, operating and repairing sewer lift stations, plumbing and electrical systems, ensuring optimal functionality. As a Utility Worker II, you will be responsible for supervising the crew during the temporary absence of a Crew Leader or when the crew is intermittently assigned to multiple locations. Responding to emergency situations and participating in snow removal operations are crucial aspects of this position.
Other responsibilities and duties include:
- Repairing and maintaining water lines, sewer lines, valves, manholes, fire hydrants, meters and lift stations.
- Operating a variety of equipment, including front-end loader, backhoe, and dump truck.
- Ensuring safe work sites.
- Collecting samples for laboratory tests and assists in the analysis.
- Transporting equipment and supplies to and from job sites.
- Assisting with notifying residents of repairs and addresses citizen concerns.
- Responding to after-hour emergencies
To excel as a Utility Worker II in our Collections Crew, you'll need a blend of technical and practical skills. A solid understanding of safety principles is essential, particularly regarding trench safety, confined space entry, and competent person duties. A high school diploma or GED is required, and applicants must possess or be able to obtain a valid Class A commercial driver's license with a Tanker Endorsement) issued by the State of Missouri. The City of O'Fallon's in-house program will train and prepare employees for this requirement.
Additionally, you'll be acquiring a Class C Wastewater Certificate within your first year to demonstrate your commitment to excellence in this field. You should be prepared to be on-call during evenings and weekends on a rotating schedule. In this position you will be working outside in all types of weather. Comfort with working in confined spaces, as defined by OSHA regulations, is also necessary for success in this role.
Requirements include:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs and/or move or maneuver equipment up to 100 lbs.
- Ability to be on-call evenings and weekends and to work long hours outside in all types of weather conditions.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the duties of this position, preferably having had a position with similar responsibilities for three to five years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) issued by the State of Missouri for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a Class C Wastewater
- Able to work in confined spaces, as defined by OSHA
