Job Title: Custodian (80% FTE)
Location: Chartwell School, Seaside, California
Position Type: 32 Hours/Week, Year-Round, Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $60,000 $70,000 Annually (DOE)

Chartwell School seeks a reliable, proactive, and detail-oriented Custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our students, staff, and visitors. This 80% position (32 hours/week) is year-round and includes full benefits. The custodian works as a key member of the facilities team and reports to the Director of Facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing of classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas
• Ensure campus cleanliness, including trash removal, floor care, window washing, and disinfecting high-touch surfaces
• Respond promptly to cleaning and maintenance requests from staff
• Monitor and restock cleaning and hygiene supplies (restrooms)
• Secure campus buildings at the end of the shift (lock doors, turn off lights, check alarms)
• Assist with event setup and takedown (tables, chairs, AV equipment)
• Collaborate with the facilities team to support safety and emergency procedures
• Follow all health, safety, and environmental regulations

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required- AA or BA preferred
• Minimum 2 years of custodial or facilities maintenance experience preferred
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
• Strong attention to detail and pride in work quality
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
• Clear background check and eligibility to work in a school setting
• Commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment

Schedule

• 32 hours/week
• Afternoon to evening shift preferred, with some flexibility for occasional weekend or special event needs
