TITLE: Head Custodian (Level II) assigned kitchen, restrooms, cafeteria
RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal, and Asst. Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months
8.0 hrs per day, 40 hrs per week (6:30 AM - 3 PM)
Holidays Off: New Years Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, 4th
July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and
Veterans Day.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
"This Is A Working Supervisor's Position"
DAILY:
- Open Building Each Morning
- Check doors
- Turn on lights (coordinate with Day-Custodian)
- Check drives and sidewalk conditions
- Check security of building
- Check Mechanical Operations of Building
- Check & clear any System Alarms
- Check heating / air conditioning Computer Control System
- Check air handler units
- Check fire alarm system (keep up date on systems}
- Lunch Duties (lunches)
- Gather milk buckets, trash, and dust mop as needed
- Clean stage if used during lunch
- Includes moving all tables as needed, scrubbing floors,
- Supervise Custodians
- Designate shift & work areas and update job descriptions, as needed
- Coordinate "out-of-hours" custodian coverage
- Assign duties to custodians for absentee workers or arrange for a substitute custodian
- Develop & maintain a project list for special needs/events
- Be aware of master schedule, participate in Cadre Meetings
- Frequent inspection of custodians work area
- Frequent verbal and written evaluation of custodians w/feedback
- Building Maintained
- Fill salt-brine tank as needed and order salt as needed
- Check boiler or chiller operation daily
- Answer building questions as required
- Conduct Building Check for "Non-Working" Days
- Check heating/air conditioning
- Check all outside doors {report unlocked doors to the principal
- Check and turn off extra lights left on
- Check/listen for any leaks
- Provide temporary security when required
- Answer call-outs from security and equipment alarms
- Other Duties
- ANNUALLY:
- Maintain all pertinent records as required
- Maintain interdepartmental relations with personnel maintenance, and principal
- Assist planning for Capital projects
- Track custodian expense budget
- Assist with maintaining space for special functions
- Assist with regular daily cleaning schedule, as needed
- Assist maintenance when needed
- Review and understand Heating/Cooling Control System
- Order custodial supplies as needed
- Maintain (or assign} outside grounds (mowing, snow & leaf removal, etc) as appropriate
- Repair anything possible, issue maintenance work orders for maintenance & assistance
- Replace dirty Air Handler air filters Bi-Annually
- Prioritize work for Summer, Fall, Christmas and Spring Breaks
- Wear and respond to communications radio
- Assist Principal formulate Capital and Expense Budgets
- Prepare for annual School Bd. Walk thru
- Prepare for annual Corporation Meeting
- Perform All Other Duties Assigned by the Principal or Asst. Principal

JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift a minimum of 60 pounds
- Able to flex-schedule as needs arise and do weekend checks
- Basic computer skills required
- Previous supervisory skills desirable
- Basic building maintenance skills required
- Basic budgeting skills required
- Ability to work from extended ladder or lift
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision
- Ability to read and understand basic chemical warning labels
- Ability to write chemical warnings on bottle labels
- Ability to do limited carpentry, electrical, and plumbing work
- Not legally limited from serving in this (or other) public school
