Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Lead Cook to join our team at Hamilton Middle School. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious and appealing meals for students while ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. This position requires strong leadership abilities, culinary expertise, and a passion for promoting healthy eating habits among middle school students.
Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and cook a variety of meals and snacks in accordance with established menus and dietary guidelines.
- Supervise and train kitchen staff, providing guidance on food preparation and safety standards.
- Ensure all food is prepared and served in a timely manner, maintaining high standards of quality and presentation.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies to ensure the kitchen is adequately stocked.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, adhering to health and safety regulations at all times.
- Collaborate with school administration to develop menus that meet nutritional guidelines and accommodate dietary restrictions.
- Conduct regular kitchen inspections to ensure compliance with local health department regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of food production, inventory, and waste management.
- Engage with students and staff to promote healthy eating habits and gather feedback on meal offerings.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay informed about culinary trends and best practices in school nutrition.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; culinary degree or certification preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a kitchen environment, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Strong culinary skills with the ability to prepare a variety of foods and accommodate special dietary needs.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff and students.
- Passion for promoting healthy eating and nutrition among students.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings and occasional weekends.
- Certification in food safety and handling is a plus.
- Ability to pass a fingerprint-based background check as required by board policy.
