POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Kitchen Assistant assists in the daily operations and meal services provided for youth in the Children’s Center. The Kitchen Assistant supports youth development by preparing and proving healthy and nutritious meals to children in YMCA programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepares a nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snack daily for the Children’s Center attendees in a commercial kitchen.
- Maintains kitchen cleanliness and organization, following health, safety, and sanitation standards
- Assists with menu planning, record-keeping, inventory and storage of food and equipment.
- Demonstrate through action and interaction with staff, Y members and the public, the Four Character Development Principles of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
- Attends staff meetings and training as required
- Substitutes for Food Services Administrator as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least one year of experience in large quantity cooking or completion of a large quantity cooking course
- Must have a current TB test and Food Handler’s Permit
- Eligible for or holds BBP, First Aid, CPR/AED certifications
- Ability to multi-task and operate under tight deadlines for meal preparation
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
- Proof of MMR vaccination is required for this position

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to clean equipment using cleaning and sanitizing agents
- The employee frequently is required to lift and carry up to 30 pounds, and spend extended amounts of time upright and moving around to complete tasks
- The employee must occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud
