Salary Grade: NC01 / Salary Range: $31,887 - 46,991. All recommended salaries are based on each applicant's qualifying education and related experience in combination with the position's budgeted salary. The maximum hiring rate for this position is $38,207.00
This posting is for a General Utility Worker at the New Hanover County Equipment Shop. Responsibilities include a variety of manual labor tasks in the upkeep of the Department's grounds, buildings, and equipment, such as yard maintenance (cut and trim grass, etc.), general building maintenance (cleaning, painting, repairs, etc.), cleaning floors (sweeping, mopping, polishing, etc.), removing trash, cleaning windows, cleaning restrooms, washing and detailing equipment, retrieving and delivering parts, and performing other related duties as required.
Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:
- Experience using small hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, post hole diggers, hammer, screwdriver, torch, etc.
- Experience operating power tools such as lawn mowers, hand trimmers, air compressors, chainsaw, weed eater, skill saw, drill, etc.
- Experience performing manual labor
Additional Expectations:
Some knowledge of the application of trade skills to do the duties assigned. Skill in the use and care of equipment and tools used in performing work assignment. Ability to perform assigned tasks and follow oral and written instructions as directed by the supervisor. Work will require exposure to all types of weather. Work may require lifting up to 50 pounds. Safety toe shoes are required within 30 days of hire date. Position requires work during any adverse weather such as snow and/or ice, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc., which can lead to working extended daily hours, weekends, and holidays. Ability to perform duties of position in accordance with all safety regulations; prepare and maintain paperwork essential to employment. Valid NC driver's license required.
