Nexus Family Healing is hiring a Part Time Food Service Assistant for the Cornerstone Cafe at our Onarga, IL location!
Nexus-Onarga Family Healing is located approximately 30 miles south of Kankakee and 45 miles north of Champaign-Urbana, just a few miles off of I-57 on a historic site in Onarga, IL. Nexus Onarga provides boys ages 10 to 20 years old a structured, homelike environment where they can safely address a variety of unhealthy behaviors and mental health issues as well as childhood trauma.

Work Schedule & Salary:
- 20 hours per week
- Monday-Friday 6 am-10 am
- $17-$19 per hour
Work Environment:
- Must be able to lift to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100+ pounds with assistance.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time (2-4 hours).
- Must be able to twist, bend and stretch in a manner conducive to the execution of daily activities within the residential program.
- Must be able to assist in proper restraining of client.
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as desktop and/or laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones.

The Food Service Assistant II will support meal prep at the Cornerstone Cafe, uphold food safety standards, manage inventory, and maintain a safe, compliant kitchen.
Primary responsibilities:
Food Service Training, Development & Oversight
- Trains new food service staff and supervises youth employees.
- Promotes teamwork and flexibility among coworkers.
Perform Food Service Functions according to Health & Safety Standards, Policy & Procedures.
- Prepares and serves meals and beverages at the Cornerstone Cafe.
- Maintains clean, compliant food prep and storage areas.
- Cleans and stores dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Handles proper food disposal and garbage processing.
- Assists with inventory, receiving, and stocking supplies.
Food and Beverage Planning.
- Assists with menu planning.
- Supports food prep, serving, cleanup, and kitchen maintenance as needed.
- Helps coordinate food and beverages for special events and meetings.
Remain current and adhere to all food service standard operating procedure, rules and instructions.
- Maintains appropriate confidentiality relating to resident background and treatment; complies with all Nexus privacy and confidentiality policies and maintain appropriate boundaries with residents at all times.
- Attends staff meetings and training sessions required by Nexus; understands and supports the Nexus philosophy, mission, and treatment modalities.
Requirements
Required Education and Licensure:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Certificate in Food Handling
- Valid driver's license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Home Office driving requirements
Preferred Experience:
- At least 1 year of food service experience
