REPORTS TO: Head Custodian
WORKS CLOSELY WITH: Other Custodians; Security Guards; Cleaning Company
MANAGES: custodians when Head Custodian is not in building
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
+ Serve as lead point of contact in building when Head Custodian is not on site. Provide leadership and management for other custodians when Head Custodian is not on site.
+ Perform major cleaning tasks such as vacuuming (using a 20 lb. vacuum daily), wet-mopping, sweeping, dusting, emptying trash (lifting waste paper and debris) and pencil sharpeners, cleaning whiteboards and disinfecting drinking fountains.
+ Clean restrooms, including floors and all fixtures (i.e.: urinals, toilets, sinks, mirrors, partitions, and counters). Ensure restrooms are clean and disinfected.
+ Wash windows and sills (door glass).
+ Perform ongoing tasks such as replacing light bulbs (climb ladders up to a height of 16 feet), filling dispensers, replacing ceiling tiles, and setting up facilities for student and adult use (lifting furniture, boxes, and cafeteria tables).
+ Work overtime and on weekends as necessary for school events and to meet facility schedules.
+ Ensure that all doors and windows are appropriately locked.
+ Must be able to go up and down stairs frequently, as well as regular bending and standing as needed in a daily shift.
+ Assist in major clean-up in summer such as washing desks and chairs, washing down walls, stripping and waxing floors, painting, etc.
+ Pull weeds, keep grounds free of rubbish and in winter shovel snow from steps and sidewalks and apply ice melt when appropriate.
+ Make building repairs and promptly report major repairs as needed to the Head Custodian. Repairs to include, but not limited to: drywall patching, replacing ceiling tiles, replacing VCT tiles, replacing carpet, replacing vinyl baseboard, light carpentry work, furniture repair, plumbing repairs, etc.
+ Maintain appearance of hallways throughout building by washing and buffing floors. This work cannot be done when students are in class. Clean classroom and MPR floors during breaks.
+ Complete preventive maintenance tasks as assigned.
+ Help monitor and enforce safety and cleaning protocols as established by the Director of Operations and Head Custodian.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
+ Inter-relate in a professional manner with students, faculty, administration and community patrons.
+ Carry and answer radio at all times when on school grounds.
+ Submit information and data as requested.
+ Regularly monitor school email for pertinent communication.
+ Manage custodial work tickets as assigned in the computer system.
+ Attend meetings as scheduled by supervisors and school administrators.
+ Complete paperwork as requested.
+ Complete training courses as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
+ High School diploma or G.E.D.
+ Ability to perform the essential job functions
+ Effective interpersonal skills
+ Effective grooming skills
+ Ability to strip, wax, and buff floors
+ Able to paint, spackle, install drywall
+ Able to make basic plumbing repairs
+ Able to problem solve
+ Able to make general facility repairs
+ Able to work on ladders and scaffolding up to 16 feet high
+ Able to work outside in hot, cold, and inclement weather
+ Ability to lift 55 pounds to shoulder height occasionally
+ Ability to push / pull a minimum of 25 pounds frequently
