Maintenance Assistant (General Maintenance Technician)

Summary:

The Interim Maintenance Assistant (General Maintenance Technician) is responsible for proactively addressing general maintenance and repair related projects for the District under the direction of the Director of Facilities and the Assistant Director of Facilities. The District includes ten schools and one administrative building. General work hours are between 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and hours may require adjustment to address emergency repairs or work that needs to be done outside of when students/employees are in buildings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on school facilities and equipment.
  • Conduct carpentry, painting, and general building repairs as needed.
  • Ensure the proper operation of doors, locks, windows, and security systems.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and emergency repair situations in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the installation and assembly of furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with safety and building codes.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and report any major repair needs.
  • Collaborate with school staff, vendors, and contractors as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Facilities Manager.
  • Aids in the general maintenance of school building when required.
  • Works with Assistant Director of Facilities to procure parts appropriately through the EPS Finance Office.

Skills:

  • Ability to operate and maintain power tools, hand tools, and maintenance equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Valid driver’s license required; ability to travel between school sites as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical labor, including climbing ladders and working in confined spaces.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures related to building maintenance.

Qualifications:

At least 10 years’ experience as a Maintenance Technician with significant experience servicing large buildings.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
