Job Title: Utility Worker-Dump Truck

Department: Distribution

Reporting Relationship: District Supervisor-Maintenance

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Grade: F

Shift: Mon-Fri, 6:30am-3:00pm

General Responsibilities:

Assist Leak Crews, Dump Truck Crews, Field Crews, Valve Crews and Construction Crews in the repair, installation, and maintenance of water main in the Distribution System. Also responsible for maintenance of right-a-ways of potable and raw water mains.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist in locating and repairing leaks within the Distribution System.
  • Assist in maneuvering heavy objects such as pipe, fittings, and valves. Apply coating materials to pipelines. Assist in measuring and cutting pipe for repairs. Pours and drives lead in pipe joints.
  • Perform manual excavations and tamping of backfill after excavations.
  • Assist in replacing curb stops and copper installations; restore paving and concrete, repair sleeves and landscaping. Handling of jack hammer, backhoe.
  • Operate equipment that relates to appurtenances and construction for the repair of water mains and its appurtenances. Operate mowing equipment such as riding mower, string trimmers and push mowers for the maintenance of transmission water mains and rights-of-way.
  • Assist in installing clamps on breaks, replace service lines, shut-off valves for repairs.
  • Assist in installing service taps with tapping machines for fire hydrants, domestic and fire services.
  • Maintain traffic control in work area to completion with use of flags to ensure a safe working environment and minor record keeping.
  • Replace and install meter boxes as needed.
  • Will be required to work an on-call schedule outside of normal schedule on a rotating basis as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required

Certifications

Valid CDL class A preferred or ability to obtain within 18 months of employment

Experience:

One (1) year of manual labor experience required. Construction experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), class B required; Class A preferred; Employee must obtain a class A CDL within 18 months of hiring into the position after starting the CDL Training Program

  • Ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time
  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard

  • Ability to see within normal parameters
  • Ability to hear within normal range
  • Ability to move about

Working Environment:

  • Indoors and outdoors; Loud Noise
  • Ability to work near moving mechanical parts
  • Outdoors exposed to extreme hot/cold and or wet weather conditions.
