Job Title: Underground Utility Worker
Job Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Underground Utility Worker to install, repair, and maintain underground utilities such as water, sewer, and gas lines. The ideal candidate will work in confined spaces and excavations, adhering to safety protocols while performing a variety of manual and technical tasks to ensure the proper functioning of underground utility systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, repair, and maintain underground utilities including water lines, sewer lines, storm drains, and gas pipelines
Excavate and trench for pipe installation, ensuring proper backfilling and compaction
Handle and join pipes, including cutting to required lengths and ensuring correct alignment
Operate hand and power tools such as vibratory compactors, small hoists, survey equipment, skid loaders, and excavators (mini-large)
Follow established safety procedures to maintain a safe work environment; identify and correct potential hazards
Perform confined space entry tasks in manholes, meter pits,, and vaults (certification required)
Locate and mark underground utility lines using electronic tracking, GPS, and other technologies; assist with utility locates and markings (811)
Assist with loading/unloading materials, cleaning equipment, performing light repairs, and maintaining daily inspection logs
Skills and Qualifications:
Physical strength and stamina to perform manual labor tasks in various weather conditions
Strong understanding of safety procedures and hazard recognition
Experience with hand and power tools used in underground utility work
Good communication and teamwork skills
Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot installation and repair issues
Basic math and measurement skills for accurate pipe fitting and trenching
Valid CDL may be required for operating company vehicles
Certification for confined space entry is preferred
