Job Summary
The Prep Cook is responsible for preparing all cold food items requiring pre-assembly for the trayline, dining room, vending machines, and special catering functions. This role ensures food is prepared according to specified recipes and state regulatory standards.
Essential Functions
Prepares cold food items including salads, sandwiches, desserts, and bag lunches as outlined on production sheets and pre-established forecasts.
Labels, dates, and stores all food items in compliance with state regulatory guidelines.
Assembles, delivers, and retrieves catering orders in a timely and professional manner.
Prepares, labels, and dates cold food items for the vending machine in the employee cafeteria.
Maintains cleanliness of work areas, including the walk-in refrigerator and all assigned food prep and storage spaces.
Discards expired or outdated food in accordance with safety standards.
Adheres to all safety, security, infection control, and hazardous material policies, including Category I Universal Precautions.
Demonstrates the mission and core values of Mercy Community Health in all job activities.
Upholds customer satisfaction and quality improvement initiatives in all tasks.
Promotes a positive, respectful work environment by interacting cooperatively and courteously with coworkers, residents, and families.
Participates in required annual education programs including fire safety, infection control, disaster response, hazard communication, and resident rights.
Maintains all required licenses and certifications.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent.
Prior kitchen or food prep experience preferred.
Ability to operate meat slicers, buffalo choppers, and other standard kitchen equipment.
Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Must be able to perform the essential job functions safely with or without reasonable accommodation.
