The Town of Clayton is seeking applicants for a Custodian for the Public Works Department . The Town of Clayton employs more than 340 full-time staff in areas including police, fire, and electric utilities. Employees in this class perform a variety of routine housekeeping duties in Town office s and buildings. Work involves the use of light equipment, such as vacuum cleaners, mops, brooms, and buffers. Work includes cleaning floors, windows, bathrooms, stairs , and stripping and waxing floors. Work is performed in accordance with established policies and procedures, supplemented by instructions on new or unusual assignments. The worker exercises some independent judgment and initiative in determining the level of cleaning required for an area and in following product directions . The employee is subject to indoor environmental conditions, fumes, odors, and dust . Tasks involve continuing physical effort requiring efficient performance of duties . Work in the cleaning of buildings is subject to the final standards of OSHA blood borne pathogens . Courtesy is required in contact with the public . Work is performed under supervision and is evaluated through daily reports, conferences, observation , and feedback.

  • Cleans buildings; cleans offices, kitchen areas, etc.; vacuums, mops, sweeps, dusts, cleans restrooms and restroom fixtures, cleans windows, glass doors, baseboards, woodwork, carpet, buffs and waxes floors.

  • Empties and cleans trash receptacles; disposes trash.

  • C lean s floors, windows, bathrooms, stair, and stripping and waxing floors.

  • Performs a variety of tasks such as removing leaves and debris and cleaning sidewalks and areas around buildings; de- ices steps.

  • Operates equipment such as buffers, vacuum cleaners, etc .

  • Maintains necessary inventory of cleaning supplies; prepares requisitions for supplies and give to supervisor.

  • Reports items requiring repair.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Housekeeping experience in residential and/or commercial settings.
  • Experience performing duties with limited supervision.

Depending on the position, the Town may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
