What You'll be Doing

The Community Food Co-op's Janitors maintain the cleanliness of the building and grounds, performs minor repairs, and are responsible for providing a welcoming and inclusive environment by offering great customer service.

What You'll be Responsible for

  • Ensuring that each customer receives outstanding service by providing a friendly environment, which includes greeting and acknowledging customers, maintaining Co-op customer service standards, solid product knowledge, explain store policies and procedures concisely, maintain an awareness of all promotions and advertisements and all other aspects of customer service. May include explaining store policies and procedures clearly, completely, and concisely to customers.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of store by cleaning break room, restrooms, equipment, fixtures and removing garbage.
  • Maintaining floors with daily sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and buffing with periodic stripping, waxing and spill clean-up.
  • Maintaining safe and clean grounds through sweeping, clean-up and snow/ice management.
  • Completing cleaning tasks in timely manner upon request from Maintenance Lead.
  • Having a familiarity with and being able to explain membership system simply, efficiently and completely.
  • Keeping Maintenance lead and Store Manager informed of cleaning and equipment problems as well as ideas for improvement.
  • Knowing and promoting Co-op Principles and Mission.
  • Participating in team, staff and other meetings as scheduled.
  • Performing other duties as needed and assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Ability to provide friendly face-to-face customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to operate all tools and equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including early mornings from 3am-11am and weekends.
  • Skills in multitasking and attention to detail.
  • Ability to speak and comprehend English well, multi-lingual is a plus.
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in moderate and loud noise environments including, but not limited to paging, telephones, human voices, music, and machinery.
  • Ability to meet physical demands including standing, bending, twisting, pushing/pulling carts, repetitive motion, keyboarding, and lifting 10-40 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to climb ladders occasionally.
