By providing safe, nutritious meals and stepping in to\nassist staff and youth as needed, you will help create a positive and\nsupportive atmosphere aligned with our mission.\nIn this role, you will have\nthe opportunity to contribute in various ways, including:\n\n Preparing\n and Cooking Meals- Create meals using provided recipes and menus\n while following food safety and sanitation standards to ensure nutritious\n and high-quality dishes.\n Maintaining\n a Clean and Organized Space- Keep the kitchen and work areas tidy and safe,\n fostering a welcoming and efficient environment.\n Providing\n Support When Needed- Assist staff, respond to support calls, and\n supervise youth as required, promoting a collaborative and caring\n atmosphere.\n Ensuring\n Smooth Meal Service- Deliver meals to the serving line, monitor food\n supplies during service, and help ensure everyone receives meals\n efficiently and on time.\n\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
\n\n\nEducation: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Correctional Training Commission regulation.\n\n\nExperience: One (1) year of experience cooking, baking or preparing large quantities of food in a restaurant, institutional or military setting. Experience in a fast-food restaurant or as a short-order cook does not qualify.\n\n\nNotes:\n1. The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209, Annotated Code of Maryland.\n2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Food Services classifications or Food Services specialty codes in the Equipment, Facilities and Services field of work on a year-for-year basis forthe required experience.\n\n\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidate for this position may possess any\nof the following:\n\n\n\n Three (3) years of experience in food preparation, including\n cooking meats, vegetables, and preparing salads and beverages in an\n institutional setting, such as hospitals, nursing homes, universities, or\n correctional facilities\n Possession\n of a ServSafe Certification\n or equivalent food safety certification\n One\n (1) year of experience working in the Federal Child Nutrition Program or a\n similar food service program\n\n\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Candidates appointed to positions in this classification must obtain certification by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission. \n2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. \n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- In accordance with the Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209of theAnnotated Code of Maryland, the Maryland Correctional Training Commission shall establish the minimum qualifications for probationary or permanent appointment of a Department of Juvenile Services employee. These requirements are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12.10.01.04, general regulations of the Maryland Correctional Training Commission, and include:\nU.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status\nA thorough background check, including fingerprinting and drug testing\nAn oral interview, and\nPhysical and psychological examinations. \n2. Employees in this classification may be subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached \n3. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation 17.04.09 - Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.\n
