JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Facilities Director, the position will assist in the oversight of the day-to-day custodial operations of the building. This position is considered a working lead position. The position will be expected and required to follow all applicable assigned duties, policies and procedures as defined by the District and Department. This position reports to the Facilities Director.

Essential Functions :

  • Provide general custodial duties, including cleaning school facilities and grounds, arranging furnishings and equipment, and securing buildings.
  • Act as point of contact while on shift, answering all calls and responding promptly.
  • Meet with Director to discuss department needs and status of current and future projects or staffing needs or concerns.
  • Correspond and coordinate with building and district administrators, Athletic Directors or administrative assistants to ensure building or facility use needs are met and provide direction and information to other building custodial staff.
  • Coordinate all work within assigned building(s) while communicating needs and cooperating with fellow departments or shifts.
  • Provide general direction to custodial employees assigned within building using a team-building approach, looking to increase efficiencies in workflow while providing a balanced workload and ensuring clean, safe and sanitary conditions.
  • Work within a budget assigned by the Director.
  • Operate equipment to meet building needs including: lifts, tractors, extractors, and floor scrubbers as well as any other assigned equipment. May also perform functions working from heights on ladders.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment or complete appropriate work order to ensure equipment maintenance.
  • Monitor supply needs and order supplies as needed.
  • Gather input from all shifts and initiate work orders for building/grounds maintenance as needed.
  • Act as point of contact for outside vendors and groups utilizing the building.
  • Ensure all chemicals are used safely and appropriately within the building according to GHS Chemical Safety Sheets and district directed standard operating procedures.
  • Provide on job training as needed or as directed by Department Director.
  • Respond to Security and Fire Alarms as needed.
  • Plan, organize and facilitate projects as assigned.
  • Observe and ensure all safety rules, regulations and training are followed and report any safety concerns or violations to Department Director.
  • Attend meetings (which may occur outside of the regular work shift) as required by Director.
  • Perform other tasks at the direction of Director.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Education/Training/Experience

  • High school diploma and/or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in custodial role.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license if position requires travel between buildings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to identify and respond to problems and to remain calm under stress.
  • Ability to conduct or delegate training for staff.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work professionally with persons at all levels while displaying a cooperative and willing attitude toward helping others.
  • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication and organizational ability.
  • Understanding of and ability to work with a variety of equipment including man lifts, tractors, extractors and floor scrubbers.
  • Understanding of Chemical Safety requirements and application use.
  • Understanding of safety procedures and labor safety standards
  • Working knowledge of Fire Alarm and Security Systems
  • Must possess the ability to lift, push, and pull weights in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Must be willing and able to climb ladders and operate lifts at elevated heights.
  • Willingness to respond to emergency calls.
  • Ability to take and carry out directions with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent record keeping ability and basic clerical and computer skills.
  • Ability to give direction and make decisions related to budget, work orders and custodial staff.

A person working in this position will work in a variety of work environments both inside and outside with occasional exposure to inclement weather. The Position requires continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting of more than 50 pounds and carrying. This person may be required to work in restricted spaces, from a prone position, and/or under difficult lighting and access conditions. Noise level may be high when operating power equipment. Employee is required to properly use such safety equipment as is appropriate to the work to prevent injury to self or others.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT AND SALARY:

As outlined by and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) of Mead Classified Public Employees Association (MCPEA) and Policies and Procedures of Mead School District. The salary range for the position is: Min $24.91 – Max $27.72. New Hires Salary placement will be at step 1 on the appropriate scale for the position unless otherwise noted within the contract.

A typical work year consists of 260 days which includes 13 paid holidays. Each employee shall accumulate twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. An employee employed less than a full work year shall be entitled to a proportionate part of the sick leave allowance. A maximum of three (3) days of annual leave are provided for all employees based on the employee’s scheduled employment hours per day to be used for an absence during work hours, or to be accumulated for the purpose of cash out.

Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability. Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over a 12-month period are eligible for Retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.
