Maintenance Mechanic (Painter)

Duties: Putnam|Northern Westchester BOCES anticipates a vacancy for Maintenance Mechanic (Painter). Duties may include, but are not limited, to:Perform a wide variety of tasks including patching and painting drywall, doors, hardware, cabinets, windows, etc.;Plan projects and research products to make recommendations for purchase of supplies, materials and equipment relevant to the assignments;Knowledge of all steps in the painting process from preparation to finishing required;Knowledge of all types of finishes and their proper use in various situations and locations;Maintain all tools required for painting projects including brushes, ladders, rollers, scaffolds, etc.;Perform general operations and maintenance tasks such as groundskeeping, snow plowing, building repair, lifting and moving furniture;Instruct personnel that will assist with projects and assignments;Create and maintain preventive maintenance schedules and maintain logs of activities associated with the building painting schedules, colors, etc.;Use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, email and database software in performing work assignments.Hours for this position are 2:30PM - 10:30PM, Tuesday through Friday, and 8:00AM-4:00PM Saturdays.Qualifications:Thorough knowledge of construction operations, maintenance, and repair techniques necessary for the efficient work associated with the Painting trade;Strong working knowledge of the other trades involved in building maintenance and construction;Ability to coordinate with said trades to allow for streamlined and efficient projects.Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential functions of the position;Ability to follow oral and written instructions and maintain intelligible and meaningful records;Ability to impart trade knowledge to others and coordinate efforts with other employees;Ability to multi-task and operate in a highly active work environment;Strong organizational skills;Physical strength and agility to perform manual labor in the painting trade to include climbing ladders and working outside. Physical condition commensuratewith the duties of the position. Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.Must hold a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.Characteristics Desired: Four (4) years of related field work experience, of which the primary function of the position was maintenance of commercial structures in the Carpentry trade. Must be able to exercise independent judgement. Must be flexible and adaptable.
