GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Applicants - Please note that it is required that you are on an active competitive list in order to apply for this position. Performs cleaning and semi-skilled maintenance tasks in a school building or an assigned section thereof; performs related duties as required. COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES: Under general supervision, work includes semi-skilled repair and maintenance tasks in addition to routine cleaning activities, and may include supervision of Cleaners. This position does not perform skilled maintenance tasks nor supervise skilled maintenance personnel. TYPICAL DUTIES: 1. Cleans and makes minor repairs to heating system. 2. Repairs furniture, replaces locks, and makes minor plumbing and electrical repairs. 3. Paints rooms and equipment. 4. Sweeps, mops, washes walls, dusts, and performs other cleaning duties. 5. Supervises operation of school building during school events. 6. Replaces light bulbs, towels, soap, and other supplies. 7. Empties wastebaskets and disposes of rubbish. 8. May cut grass, trim shrubbery, rake leaves, etc. 9. May operate a heating system - low pressure steam boiler, hot air furnaces, or hot water boilers. 10. May direct traffic for protection of school children.
- TYPICAL ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 1. Considerable knowledge of building and cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment; and ability to use them economically and efficiently. 2. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a heating system. 3. Ability to make semi-skilled plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical repairs. 4. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions. 5. Sufficient physical strength to perform strenuous custodial activities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Training and Experience 1. One year of satisfactory experience in building cleaning and maintenance work;
or 2. Six months of satisfactory experience as a carpenter, plumber, electrician, painter, mechanic, steam firer, or other related maintenance work;
or 3. One year of satisfactory experience as a Cleaner in a Nassau County school district.
