You support the Restaurant General Manager (RGM) by running great work shifts and meeting standards. You take ownership and responsibility to solve problems, seek help when needed and are willing to help and guide others. Key responsibilities include making sure Team Members complete all assigned duties and serve safe, quality food in a friendly manner. Youll also ensure that the restaurant is a safe place for Team Members to work and customers to visit.

Shift Lead behaviors include:

  • Communicating openly and honestly with the Restaurant Management team.
  • Following cash, security, inventory and labor policies and procedures.

Description of role:

Assign tasks to all associates on station in the restaurant and ensure they are completed

Ensure all checklists, including Department of Health (DOH), opening and closing, are carried out daily

Assist vendors and maintain inventory

Control payroll and ensure correct staffing levels are met

Train new hires and issue on the spot training as needed

Communicate any issues in restaurant to management team

Ensure all staff are in correct dress code

Observe the floor and making sure the business is running effectively and smoothly

Supervise policies and procedures as per New York State Labor Laws and Department of Health procedures/standards

Perform opening and closing procedures

Follow all money handling procedures and issue register audits

Supervise staff breaks

Assist with supervision of the bar operation, staff and inventory

Proactively respond to the needs of the business and ensure the smooth running of the restaurant and complete additional tasks as needed (i.e. arrange coverage for call outs)

Communicate any issues to manager on duty in the absence of management

Ensure all inventory is dated, rotated and stored correctly

Ensure the quality of the products served meet the standards. This includes standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards, kitchen rules, policies and procedures

Ability to effectively prepare food during scheduled shift and have the ability to anticipate and prepare to high volumes of customers

Ability to maintain a clean and sanitary work station, including tables, shelves, grills, convection oven and refrigeration equipment

Ability to portion food products prior to cooking in accordance with standard portion sizes and recipe specifications

Ability to consistently follow proper plate presentation and garnish set-up for all dishes

Ability to handle, prepare, store and rotate all food and products according to company and Department of Health (DOH) standards

Ability to assist in food prep assignments during off-peak periods, as needed

Extensive knowledge of menu

Ability to perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager On Duty

Contribute to a positive work environment by consistently treating all employees and customers with respect

Work well in a fast paced environment with ability to adapt to ever changing customer volume levels with a sense of urgency

Consistently and accurately use daily and nightly prep sheets, cleanliness and station checklists

Ability to clean equipment as assigned, thoroughly and in a timely manner, in accordance with sanitation guidelines

Ability to effectively make recommendations and sell products

Ensure that customers are satisfied with their experience

Liaise with management and supervisors with any service issues encountered to ensure excellent customer service is met

Follow all company policies, procedures and Department of Health guidelines

Skills and requirements:

Basic understanding of professional cooking and knife handling skills

Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures

Ability to adjust priorities and manage time wisely in a fast-paced environment

Ability to work a fully flexible retail schedule including nights, weekends and holidays is a MUST

Availability to work the hours necessary to open and/or close the store

Strong interpersonal, communication, organization and follow-through skills

The incumbent must be very energetic

Must possess a high threshold for ambiguity and change

Ability to work in a fast paced environment

Appreciation of unique culture, entrepreneurial attitude, heritage and passion for its products.

-Must have Food Safety certificate and 1+ years management experience.

Work schedule:

-Must have open availability, including weekends.
