Description
The City of Jefferson is looking to hire a knowledgeable and dependable Parks Maintenance Worker within the Parks Department. Join our Parks & Recreation team as a Parks Construction Worker and help shape the green spaces where families play, communities gather, and nature thrives.
Examples of Duties
Performs building and grounds maintenance and construction on City-owned property and facilities including park buildings, shelters, pavilions, trails, playgrounds, athletic fields, restrooms, concession stands, ice arena, swimming pools, tennis courts, golf course and recreation centers.
Performs a variety of construction trades including carpentry, concrete work, roofing and masonry work. Ability to form, pour and finish concrete; framing and finish carpentry work; minor plumbing and electrical work; painting; grading and seeding.
Operate and maintain a wide variety of light, medium and heavy equipment and vehicles associated with the park maintenance and construction trades.
Operate surveying equipment and laser levels necessary for grading and construction of trails, parking lots, roads, walkways and structures.
Ability to install water lines, sewer lines, storm drainage lines and structures.
Ability to operate hand tools and machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
Performs work in a safe manner, securing work site and following zone safety rules, wearing safety equipment including glasses, boots, gloves, hearing protection, helmets, and harnesses.
Maintain accurate, reliable records of daily work, equipment used, worksites, and project.
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge and ability to operate and maintain various park, forestry and landscaping equipment and vehicles.
Physical: Ability to work in extreme weather conditions; lift, carry, push and pull up to 100 pounds stand for extended periods; and operate various parks equipment including: backhoes, loaders, bobcat, tandem dump truck, brush hog, skid loader, ditch witch, and trenching equipment.
Mental: Ability to follow directions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and organize equipment, supplies and vehicles necessary for daily work tasks. Must be a positive Parks and Recreation representative while working closely with co-workers and the general public.
Parks Maintenance Worker:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and one-year experience directly involved in construction or building and grounds maintenance.
Obtains and maintains Missouri Class A CDL with air brake.
Senior Parks Maintenance Worker:
Requires a high school diploma and four years' experience in construction, carpentry or building and grounds maintenance.
Obtains and maintains Missouri Class A CDL with air brake.
Supplemental Information
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Missouri Class B CDL with air brake and tank endorsement.
Electrical or plumbing license preferred.
Specific job title and salary depends upon qualifications. Minimum starting salary for a Park Maintenance worker is $17.37 per hour and maximum salary for Senior Parks Maintenance Worker is $27.36 an hour.
