Job Title: Second Cook
Department: Food and Nutrition - Production
Entity: Pennsylvania Hospital, 800 Spruce Street
Hours/Shift: Full-time, Days 9:30am - 5:00pm
Overview: Join our dynamic team at Penn Medicine as a Second Cook! You will play a crucial role in preparing delicious and nutritious food for our in-patients and retail areas. Your expertise in food preparation andmitment to quality will ensure our patients and customers receive the best culinary experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation: Prepare hot and cold food items according to forecasted quantities and standardized recipes, ensuring all food is maintained in accordance with HACCP procedures.
Portion Control: Follow portion control standards to ensure consistency and quality in all food produced.
Skillful Techniques: Demonstrate proficiency in slicing and cutting techniques to create visually appealing and tasty dishes.
Efficient Storage Management: Retrieve food products from storage areas in a timely manner, maintaining neat and orderly storage and receiving areas. Ensure proper rotation and thawing of food items according to HACCP standards.
Product Labeling: Date and label all products moving through your work/production area to ensure freshness and traceability.
Infection Control: Properly prepare and handle foods and equipment to maintain infection control standards.
Personal Hygiene: Ad to dress code standards and practice personal hygiene to prevent potential infections.
Cleanliness: Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary work area at all times. Clean equipment and tables using appropriate chemicals and procedures.
Team Collaboration: Perform duties in accordance with Penn Medicine's values, policies, and procedures. Support the unit, department, entity, and health systemanization as needed.
Requirements:
Education: High School Diploma or GED is required
Experience: Minimum of 3 years working in a high-volume kitchen environment required.
