GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under direction, performs custodial work within the Macomb County Department of Roads (MCDR's) Clinton Township facility. This includes the Clinton Township Service Center, Mechanic Department, Purchasing Department, Sign Department, Signal Department, Maintenance Office and grounds. May also be required to perform similar duties at the MCDR Administration Building as necessary. Performs related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Dusts, sweeps, vacuums, mops, scrubs and waxes all floors.
Gathers and disposes of litter and trash in all areas of assigned facility.
Dusts, washes and cleans furniture.
Moves and sets up furniture.
Vacuums stairs, landings, hallways, offices and all other areas.
Seals, waxes and buffs floors periodically.
Strips old floor wax and refinishes according to assigned schedules and routines.
Vacuums and shampoos carpets.
Cleans and sanitizes restrooms.
Stocks restrooms with necessary paper products.
Cleans and maintains custodial closets and equipment.
Washes walls and windows.
Maintains inventory of cleaning supplies.
Requests cleaning supplies and equipment as needed.
Cleans and maintains ceilings, ceiling fixtures and air vents.
Notifies management concerning need for minor repairs.
Cleans snow and debris from sidewalk.
Spreads salt on public passageways.
Installation and maintenance of landscaping, including adding/refreshing mulch or rocks, cutting grass, clearing weeds and brush, planting/trimming trees, shrubs and floral displays according to accepted horticultural practices.
Paints walls and/or ceilings as needed.
Acts as backup to clean and service unassigned buildings as needed.
Operates survey equipment to show physical features of terrain and various topographical features.
Verifies proper signing, barricading and safety practices are followed by contractors.
Ensures that area of work is properly restored when construction is finished.
May be required to perform duties in areas other than those regularly assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education and Experience:
Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test (GED)
Previous custodial and/or housekeeping experience
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license and an operable insured automobile for authorized travel
Preferred Licenses or Certifications
- Possess and maintain a valid Michigan Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
