Position Summary:
The Baker will be an integral part of the culinary team, responsible for the preparation and baking of a variety of breads, pastries, and desserts. This role involves ensuring that all baked goods meet the highest standards of quality, flavor, and presentation. The Baker will work closely with the kitchen team and report directly to the Chef/F&B Manager, contributing to the overall culinary experience at Pearl at Kalauao. Additional responsibilities include maintaining the cleanliness of the baking area, adhering to food safety guidelines, and managing inventory for baking supplies.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skill Requirements:
- 2-4 years of professional baking experience in a commercial kitchen or bakery
- Minimum education: High School (or equivalent) Diploma; a culinary degree or certification in baking is preferred
- Comprehensive knowledge of baking techniques, ingredient usage, and kitchen safety
- Ability to produce a wide variety of baked goods, including cakes, pastries, and breads.
- Strong attention to detail and creativity in food presentation
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Dependable and self-motivated, with a strong commitment to quality
- Familiarity with food safety regulations and sanitation procedures
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and bake a variety of breads, pastries, and desserts, following standard recipes and specifications
- Ensure baked goods are prepared with attention to taste, appearance, and consistency
- Monitor inventory of baking supplies and ingredients, and notify the Chef/F&B Manager Manager when orders are needed
- Keep the baking station clean and organized, adhering to food safety and sanitation standards
- Collaborate with the Chef/F&B Manager on new baked goods and special menus
- Assist in training junior kitchen staff in baking techniques and processes
- Perform quality checks on ingredients and finished products to ensure they meet Pearl at Kalauao’s standards
- Maintain equipment and report any issues to the Chef/F&B Manager
- Assist with the development of seasonal or special event baked items
- Perform other kitchen duties as assigned by the Chef/F&B Manager
Working Conditions:
- Requires long periods (6-8 hours) of standing, walking, bending, and lifting
- May need to lift items up to 50lbs occasionally
- Use of sight for baking, operating equipment, and cleaning
- Regular exposure to heat from ovens and noise in a kitchen environment
- Weekend, holiday, and occasional extended hours may be required
