Custodian- Downtown Shelter- Men's Side

Description The custodian maintains a clean working environment for all staff and visitors, ensuring all areas are safe. This role is primarily responsible for cleaning the occupied dormitories of the Men's side of the shelter which houses 430-460 males a night, cleaning of the bathrooms 9including deep cleans throughout the shelter, as well as cleaning up spills ranging from water, soda, biohazards, etc). This role is also responsible for ensuring the trash receptacles are emptied frequently and these bags are typically between 40-50 pounds and must be carried out to the dumpsters.

Essential Functions

  • Provide routine cleaning of dorms, apartments, offices and common areas:
  • Clean and sanitize all restrooms; stock areas with supplies such as hand soap, paper towels and toilet paper;
  • Clean, mop, wash, buff and vacuum floors;
  • Dust, clean and polish furniture and fixtures;
  • Empty all trash and remove to outside dumpsters;
  • Clean windows;
  • Maintain outside areas and parking lot as directed, sweeping debris and washing walkways;
  • Report malfunction of bathroom fixtures, light fixtures, and/or damages to room and dorm furnishings to supervisor and initiate work orders for repair / maintenance;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Safety:

  • Follow all safety procedures for equipment and job functions and use personal protective equipment;
  • Use chemicals per OSHA and MSDS regulations;
  • Perform routine safety inspections on equipment;
  • Clean spills using blood born pathogen kits and/or OSHA approved spill kits.

Additional Duties and Job Attributes:

  1. Assist in moving furniture, equipment or fixtures, set up for meetings, parties and other events.
  2. Assist in receiving donations or other deliveries as directed.
  3. Thorough with attention to detail.
  4. Time management.
  5. Maintain a professional attitude and cordial relationship with fellow staff members and CASS clients.

Physical Activities and Working Conditions: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing and reaching all day. The employee must frequently lift and carry items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The duties of this job frequently expose the employee to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Minimum age of 18;
  • Have the ability to obtain a State of Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card;
  • PASS DRUG SCREEN . (NEED MEDICAL CARD FOR POSITIVE RESULTS)
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • CPR-First Aid certification within 90 days of employment;
  • Naloxone (Narcan) training within 90 days of employment.

Preferred:

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
