To prepare and serve beverages and/or serve food to the guests in a friendly, courteous and timely manner, resulting in guest satisfaction as well as to prepare beverages for servers to supply to guests.

Essential Job Functions

This description is a summary of primary responsibilities and qualifications. The job description is not intended to include all duties or qualifications that may be required now or in the future. The Hotel operates 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, so operational demands may vary depending on shift, business levels, type of business.

  • Greets guests in a courteous and friendly manner, promotes and documents orders for drinks. Mixes, garnishes and presents drinks using standard ingredient recipes and practicing prudent portion control.
  • Inputs the order into the Point-of-Sale computer.
  • Maintains proper and adequate set-up of the bar daily. This includes requisitioning and stocking of all beer, wine, spirits, paper products, straws and stirrers, condiments and produce based on projections from the daily functions sheet.
  • Responsible for maintaining stock, cutting, and storing of all fresh fruit and vegetable garnishes, juices and other perishables daily to ensure product quality.
  • Completes daily inventory for consumption audits.
  • Maintains beer bottle sales log daily in accordance with Hotel standards.
  • Complies with accounting guidelines regarding receipt of payments, check total verification, tip disbursement, cash drawer and house bank management. Maintains a house bank in accordance with Hotel policy.
  • Receives cash from guests, makes any change needed, verifies validity of charges, records charges, and ensures vouchers are properly executed, to balance all money.
  • Abides by all State, Federal and Corporate liquor regulations pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages to minors and intoxicated guests.
  • Locks up and stores all beverages, food and other equipment items, deposits cash drops and secures bank.
  • Follows all Hotel cash handling, credit card handling, and bank policies.
  • Performs general cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products as assigned by your supervisor to adhere to health standards.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
  • Follows safety and security procedures and rules.
  • Knows department fire prevention and emergency procedures.
  • Uses protective equipment.
  • Reports unsafe conditions to supervisor including but not limited to accidents, injuries, near-misses, property damage or loss to supervisor.
  • Performs any related duties as requested by supervisor/manager.
  • Assists other restaurant, banquet and food and beverage team members and management when needed or assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

The Hotel may consider the equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience providing the knowledge, skills and abilities cited below, when applicable.

  • Must have at least one (1) year prior experience as a bartender.
  • Must possess knowledge of all State, Federal and Corporate liquor regulations pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages.
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Tips, TEAM, ServSafe Alcohol Handler card or equivalent.
  • Must have basic knowledge of food and beverage preparations, service standards, guest relations and etiquette.
  • Must possess knowledge of the appropriate table settings and service ware.
  • Must possess the ability to remember, recite and promote the variety of menu items.
  • Must possess the ability to operate beverage equipment, e.g., coffee maker.
  • Must possess knowledge of food and beverage preparation and service of various alcoholic beverages.
  • Must possess the ability to make specialty coffee drinks such as cappuccino, latte, etc.
  • Must possess basic mathematical skills necessary to operate a cash register, make change, total guest checks, count total bank, prepare cash drops, total all other charges, and understand portion sizes.
  • Must be able to speak, understand, read, and write the English language sufficient to understand inquiries from customers and communicate simple instructions.
  • Must possess the ability to comprehend and apply written product labeling instructions to enable the safe application of products and processes within the hotel
  • Must possess the ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods.
  • Must possess the ability to diplomatically deal with difficult situations and people, while exhibiting a consistent level of professionalism.
  • Must possess the ability to communicate with many diverse kinds of people to give information, answer questions, and provide the required services.
  • Must possess the ability to understand and follow directions and perform job functions under limited supervision.
  • Must possess the ability to work a flexible schedule which may change from week to week. This includes the ability to work weekends, holidays and overnights.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess the ability to lift, reach, bend, stoop, stand and walk continuously, climb stairs, and push or pull heavy equipment
  • Must possess the ability to perform duties in confined spaces.
  • Must possess the ability to Lift, Push & Pull up to fifty (50) pounds required.
  • Must possess the ability to lift all equipment and supplies on and off cart.
  • Must be capable of frequent twisting, bending, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, talking, hearing, seeing and smiling.
  • Standing is required during the entire shift.
  • Must possess hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations.
  • Must possess sufficient manual dexterity in hands to use a knife to make garnish, pick up glassware and bottles, scoop ice, mix drinks, and reach overhead to retrieve stock.
  • All team members must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance. (Specific standards outlined in the team member handbook).
