South Seattle College is looking to hire an Enologist/Cellar Master Part-Time Instructor at the Northwest Wine Academy.

The salary range for part time faculty is $7,110.33 - $10,649.33 (P1: A1- E7).

The Northwest Wine Academy was established in 2004 as the first and only working and teaching winery of its kind in Western Washington. Classes are designed for students just starting out in the wine industry, professionals who need to enhance their skills and knowledge of current trends, and enthusiasts who want to deepen their knowledge of wine. As the Cellar Master and Enologist for the institution, it will be your responsibility assist the winemaker and students to produce quality wines, with an added emphasis on organization, communication, and safety. This position will be part time.

What you will be working on:
Performs all wine analysis and winemaking tasks as requested by the winemaker
Manages the laboratory classroom
Maintains and orders inventory and supplies
Performs equipment upkeep
Maintains a clean and safe laboratory environment
Assists in the instruction and task management of the winemaking students
Responsible for instruction on how to perform analytic tests
Supervises the students during all wine analysis
Manages the workflow during classroom instructional periods
Maintain winemaking data logs, instructional material and MSDS files
Assist other NWWA instructors in preparing sensory chemical samples for classroom instruction as needed
Cellar Master Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with Winemaker to oversee, coordinate and implement all cellar and bottling activities including daily execution of work orders.
- Supervise and assist students in both the lab and cellar.
- Manages cellar supply inventories, equipment, and facility maintenance programs.
- Oversees cellar sanitation and organization.
- Assists with hospitality events as needed (pouring, set-up, etc.)
- Encourages a safe, welcoming, educational and collaborative work environment.

What you bring as a candidate:
- Able to plan and execute cellar workflow and long-term production goals.
- Aptitude for working collaboratively with a team, leading with positivity, and engaging students in the winemaking process.
- Must be extremely organized and have the skill set to prioritize and schedule cellar tasks.
- Exhibits strong communication skills and great attention to detail.
- Demonstrates a proactive and positive attitude, a great work ethic, and an interest in improving winemaking skills.
- Must be able to drive a forklift and be forklift certified.
- Have competent computer skills.
- Previous experience in the field.
- Familiarity with high quality, small batch winemaking.
- Strong working knowledge of all cellar procedures such as crushing, pressing, wine movements, topping, barrel work, filtration, and equipment sanitation.
- Strong working knowledge of lab equipment and lab procedures for standard winery analysis.
- Must have a valid drivers license, clean driving record and dependable transportation.
Physical requirements include: climbing ladders and stairs, being able to lift and carry 55 lbs., working irregular hours (sometimes including weekends) in wet, cold or uncomfortable conditions.
