Position Overview
NCTA is seeking a reliable, customer-focused Food Service Associate to serve in a flexible, on-call capacity. Work hours may be scheduled in advance or requested on an as-needed basis, depending on operational needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of food service tasks across cafeteria, deli, catering, and related areas.
- Set up and close down stations; cook, prep ingredients, and restock supplies.
- Maintain food quality and presentation standards; monitor temperature, taste, and appearance.
- Operate dish machines and perform general cleaning and light custodial duties.
- Control food costs and waste; assist with inventory and recipe prep.
- Provide excellent customer service and assist with cashiering and computer use.
- Train others as needed; perform additional duties as assigned.
Position requires obtaining a Food Handler's permit (can be earned by passing Safety and Sanitation test). Position requires the ability to push/pull heavy carts that may exceed 50 pounds and requires lifting and moving of heavy items, including on stairs. On-Call employees may work up to 693 hours per fiscal year and are not eligible for paid leave or any other university benefits. Within the UNL system, this position is categorized as O/S On Call Hourly.
