Job Description: The City Custodian is responsible for the day-to-day cleanliness of City Facilities and Parks. The Custodian performs a variety of work in preparation, repair and maintenance of parks, buildings and grounds. The position reports to the Parks and Facilities Director. The duties of the employee will be subject to but not limited to the following: Cleans restrooms, breakrooms, offices, lobbies and public areas of City Facilities. Stocks toilet and restroom supplies. Vacuums, sweeps, and mops floors. Dusts and polishes furniture and wood work. Empties and cleans waste receptacles. Washes windows and walls. Sets up and prepares for meetings, trainings, special events and needs. Reports needed repair work to proper authority. Performs minor repairs to building fixtures and equipment. Operates and checks lights, switches, and other related items. Pick up paper and other debris from grounds and buildings. May be required to perform miscellaneous maintenance work such as touchup painting. Operate City vehicles and equipment. Assure security of buildings and grounds during assigned times. May be required to work after hour events. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Other duties as assigned by the Parks and Facilities Director. Compensation: Salary is $20 per hour. High school graduate or equivalent is required.
Applicant must pass a pre-employment criminal background check, drug screen and physical administered by the City of Whitehouse appointed physician at the City s expense.
A valid Texas Driver s license with a clean driving record.
Ability to travel to multiple locations within the City.
Be able to maintain buildings and office space in a clean, orderly and secure manner.
Safely use tools, equipment, and vehicles required for the work in a safe and efficient manner.
Ability to observe and report safety hazards and areas in need for maintenance and repair.
Move and arrange furniture and equipment for meetings and special events.
Ability to perform minor repairs.
Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
Ability to meet schedules and timelines.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Physical Qualifications:
Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Stretching, bending, pushing, stooping, climbing, crouching, and crawling.
Moving and lifting 50+ pounds.
Reaching overhead, above shoulders and horizontally.
Climbing ladders and working from varying heights.
Occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions.
