SUMMARY
The Janitor maintains buildings in a clean and orderly condition. Performs heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing trash.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Cleans classrooms, hallways, washrooms, lavatories, rooms, drinking fountains, offices, cafeteria, gym, entrances, etc., on a daily basis.
- Cleans building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
- Removes trash by emptying trash containers; transports materials to disposal area; recycles materials.
- Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Mixes water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
- Cleans windows, glass partitions, or mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, or squeegees.
- Requisitions supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
- Dusts furniture, walls, machines, or equipment.
- Cleans and polishes furniture and fixtures.
- Steam cleans or shampoos carpets.
- Moves heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually with assistance or by using hand trucks.
- Sets up, arranges, or removes decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Continually monitors timeliness to achieve timely completion of all jobs.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent required. Related experience in similar position is preferred. Must successfully pass Diocesan background screening and Safe Environment Training.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
The ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing. Strong command of both written and spoken English language.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The working hours of this position are not limited to an 8-hour day. This person will need to be available in the evening and weekends, as needed. Must be willing to work in conditions of stress and function well under pressure.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing 15 feet and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and
materials 30 pounds.
