JOB SUMMARY
The Janitor role carries a primary responsibility of cleaning buildings on our campus and the surrounding area.
Additional areas of responsibility include but are not limited to: completing the daily task list of cleaning,
maintaining the general up keep and service of the building, receiving, ordering and storing supplies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- · Cleaning and Sanitization: Perform regular cleaning and sanitization tasks to maintain cleanliness
- throughout the facility, including offices, restrooms, break rooms, common areas and other designated
- spaces.
- · Trash and Waste Management: Collect and dispose of trash, recyclables and other waste materials in
- accordance with established guidelines and procedures. Includes the capacity to empty outdoor trash
- receptacles weighing up to 50lbs.
- · Floor Care: Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors using appropriate equipment and cleaning agents. Ensure that
- floors are free from debris, spills, and hazards. Spot-clean spills, stains and debris in high-traffic areas
- as needed.
- · Surface Cleaning: Dust and wipe down surfaces, tables, windowsills, windows, and fixtures using approved
- cleaning solutions.
- · Restroom Maintenance: Clean and disinfect restrooms, restock supplies, and ensure proper functioning of
- facilities such as toilets, sinks, and dispensers. To include operation of toilet and drain clearing tools
- · Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and guidelines while performing cleaning duties, including
- proper handling and storage of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- · Reporting Maintenance Issues: Identify and report maintenance issues to supervisor promptly.
- · Special Cleaning Projects: Assist with deep cleaning tasks, seasonal cleaning, and other special projects as
- assigned.
- · Collaboration: Coordinate and collaborate with other janitorial staff, volunteers, and agency staff to ensure
- consistent operation of the agency’s facilities. Be willing to assist with janitorial tasks in all agency buildings
- if needed.
- · Conduct periodic inspections of public-access areas (community rooms, entry lobbies, meeting
- rooms) twice weekly; take out community-area trash and refill liners.
REQUIREMENTS
- · The ability to work flexibly to the differing demands of the role: working with people, managing work load in an appropriate manner and in the time frame given and dealing professionally with colleagues. · Work responsibly and clean to a high standard. · Able to relate with people from a variety of different backgrounds: especially vulnerable, those with mental illness, substance abuse, etc. · Be able to keep pace with the daily demands of the job. · IT Skills helpful not essential. · Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner. EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE
- · Minimum of a High School diploma or GED preferred. Consideration is given to those with relevant
- experience too.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- · Standing and being physically active for extended periods of time.
- · Occasional lifting (light-medium weight) of materials for laundry, cleaning, receiving donations or other
- activities.

WORK ENVIRONMENTS
The employee will work in a large open plan room and in all areas of the Day Shelter and WestTown Campus. Hectic
situations can occur in the public area of the facility characteristic to working with the homeless community and the related
concerns and situations related to homeless conditions. Potential exists for volatile and unpredictable situations to occur.
Exposure to strong odors such as soiled clothes and poor hygiene, are common.
