POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Housekeeping Supervisor, the Housekeeping Porter plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our YMCA facility. This position ensures a positive member experience by keeping all areas sanitary, well-stocked, and ready for use.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIEs:

  • Clean and disinfect all assigned areas, including restrooms, locker rooms, fitness spaces, and common areas.
  • Perform routine tasks such as mopping, vacuuming, dusting, trash removal, and window washing.
  • Disinfect high-touch surfaces and fitness equipment multiple times per shift.
  • Restock paper products, hand sanitizers, and soap dispensers regularly.
  • Set up or rearrange furniture for events or programs as needed.
  • Promptly respond to facility needs and communicate maintenance issues to the appropriate department.
  • Ensure outdoor seasonal upkeep, including snow removal or lawn care when required.
  • Uphold safety and security protocols, reporting any hazards or incidents promptly.
  • Greet members, tenants, and guests with warmth and respect; assist individuals with disabilities.
  • Use clear, professional language in interactions and collaborate with the team to meet shared goals

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Prior experience in custodial or commercial cleaning preferred.
  • Positive, team-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working around people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Willingness to follow safety procedures and handle cleaning agents properly.
  • Able to read and follow basic instructions and maintain records of work performed.
  • Committed to maintaining confidentiality and demonstrating reliability.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and climbing.

Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, dirt, and variable temperatures.

Occasional work from heights (up to 30 feet) and in confined spaces.

May require cleaning machinery or light maintenance tools.
