Have you ever wondered why some historic properties are torn down while others are saved? Every day the Metro Historical Commission staff evaluates historic properties and uses the historic zoning statutes to preserve homes and businesses alike. In recent years, the Historic Commission has been successful in saving many historic properties that would have otherwise been destroyed. If saving our history interests you and you meet all other requirements, this could be the job for you.
Performs various duties necessary for maintenance of the Nashville City Cemetery grounds, buildings, and monuments. May also perform other duties for the Metro Historical Commission as assigned.
Serves as the groundskeeper for the Nashville City Cemetery, including but not limited to mowing, weeding, edging, trimming, litter and limb pickup, raking leaves, and blowing debris off of streets, pathways, parking lots, and monuments.
Maintains and regularly inspect equipment to ensure safe and proper operation, such as cleaning, oiling, greasing, and other maintenance as needed.
Observes the cemetery for concerning activities and report to the proper authorities to ensure the safety of the cemetery and its patrons.
Performs unskilled maintenance at the cemetery, including but not limited to cleaning the Keeble and maintenance buildings, painting, and other minor repairs as needed.
Engages in public interaction and additional responsibilities.
- Will be trained to clean and make minor repairs to monuments, as well as preventative measures to avoid damaging monuments with mowing equipment.
Will be trained to answer questions about the history of the cemetery and assist with locating graves.
Will be trained to survey the cemetery and provide documentation of its condition, as well as assist in research projects related to the cemetery.
May be trained to give tours of the cemetery.

LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid Driver License

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Experience with Cemetery Maintenance
- Experience using hand and power tools
