Under the direction of the Guest Services manager, the receptionist is responsible for greeting patients and visitors, answering patient information calls, and providing directions to various areas in the hospital. Sorts mail and is responsible for the delivery functions for all hospital departments and physicians. Other responsibilities include sorting and delivery of patient and doctor mail, accessing hospital information systems to provide patient information and communicating and promoting a positive professional image.
The Receptionist will maintain a warm smile, approachable attitude and have a professional demeanor. In addition, they must have the ability to speak with a clear, pleasant and understandable voice.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
A. Education :
. High School Graduate
General computer knowledge
B. Training and Experience :
Six months to one-year previous receptionist/customer service referred.
C. Job Knowledge :
Experience with computers necessary. Uses computer to access information regarding patients and understands what constitutes appropriate information. Acts as a resource agent for visitors, patients, and staff members regarding the following:
- Directions to specific departments/areas of hospital.
- Discharge procedures of patients, as it relates to family/patient responsibilities.
- Accessing Pastoral Care.
- Information regarding visiting policies.
- Information regarding delivery policies.
Ability to communicate in a professional manner both written and verbally. Ability to utilize hospital information systems and hospital directories. Ability and temperament to adapt to change. Ability to exercise good judgement in a crisis situation. Ability to utilize phone to transfer calls. Ability to operate pagers and miscellaneous communications equipment.
DEMANDS
A. Physical
Hearing and speech acuity to answer telephone and visitor requests. Motor coordination and finger dexterity necessary to answer calls, operate computer and other miscellaneous communications equipment. Visual acuity to read daily operations manual updates, patient information, physician status information, multiple directories and mail sorting. Full range of body motion including handling and lifting manuals, directories, telephone books and occasional boxes and eye/hand coordination to operate computer and related office equipment. Requires standing and walking for short periods of time. Approximately 95% sitting most of the day. Ability to work under pressure with time constraints. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to interact in an environment that promotes teamwork. Must be able to perform emergency tasks simultaneously, quickly, efficiently, in a calm, organized manner.
