Position Summary: Semi-skilled and manual labor involving minor construction, repair, and maintenance of public facilities including roadways, drainage systems, parks, athletic fields, and public grounds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: ( The duties listed are intended to serve as an example of the typical functions performed. They are not exclusive or all-inclusive and will vary with assignments.)
- Performs ornamental landscape and sports turf maintenance at City parks, public facilities, roadways, medians and right of ways including but not limited to, tree planting/trimming/pruning, litter/debris removal, household chemical application and irrigation system repairs.
- Performs roadway and storm sewer system maintenance and repairs including patching of potholes, repair/replacement of traffic signs, repair/replacement of sidewalks, minor asphalt overlays and cleaning of drainage structures.
- Performs landscape maintenance functions including cutting and edging of grass, removal of weeds, trimming of hedges and shrubs and clearing of brush with the use of hand/power equipment and tools.
- Prepares various athletic fields and playgrounds for safe play through daily maintenance and other related tasks.
- Inspects, repairs and cleans walkways, tables, signs, grills, exercise equipment, and playgrounds.
- Ensures timely reporting of preventive maintenance and repair of tools, equipment and vehicles.
- Adheres to safety rules, regulations and policies of the City and the Department.
- Completes work orders, accident reports, inspection checklists, daily work reports and other documents as assigned.
- Responds to emergency situations during and after hours to resolve immediate safety concerns.
- Provides input on improvements to work procedures and safety practices to improve the functions of areas of responsibility.
- Performs various miscellaneous tasks, including but not limited to setting up for events, moving furniture and equipment and works community outreach events as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Occupational hazards, environmental regulations and compliance thereof, and safety precautions of the trade.
- Principles, practices and techniques of general construction, landscape maintenance, or related field.
- Proper use and operation of hand and power tools.
- Basic computer software proficiency/understanding of, but not limited to, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat and other Department software programs.
- Understand and adhere to Policies and Procedures.
- Follow safety rules and regulations of the City and the Department and utilize personal protection equipment as required.
- Performs heavy manual labor, repair and upkeep of landscape maintenance.
- Identify or discover existing and potential problems/opportunities and use reason, vision and creativity to reach conclusions and decisions that best resolve issues.
- Plan, organize, track and follow-up on details and meet deadlines for multiple projects with varying completion dates.
- Identify issues, generate and evaluate alternate solutions and make sound recommendations.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of irrigation systems.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools and mechanical equipment.
- Maintain high standards for professional and ethical conduct
- Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor; respectfully listen to others to gain a full understanding of issues before making decisions.
- Utilize common hand and power tools and landscaping equipment.
- Operate various types of mechanical equipment including, but not limited to mowers, small tractors, aerial lifts and backhoe/front loaders.
- Understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Weekends and Holidays may be required.
- Understand and interpret various City codes and regulations.
- Handle complaints in a courteous and effective manner.
- Work to make sound decisions based on well-established procedures.

- High School Diploma/GED.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in construction, landscaping, field maintenance and equipment operation, or closely related field.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Drivers License.
