Seasonal Golf Groundskeeper

POSITION REPORTS TO: Director of Operations/Superintendent POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None BLS COMPARABLE: 37-3011, Landscaping and Grounds Keeping Workers LEADERSHIP: Provides co-worker leadership to others through motivation, team building, and providing feedback. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

POSITION PURPOSE: To enhance the quality of life of Enid residents and guests through the maintenance and improvement of the golf course and facilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

• Operate various tools to include shovel, rake, pruners, and aerifier.
• Operate sod-cutter for cutting out and laying sod.
• Dig, plant seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, and shrubs, and apply mulch for protection, using gardening tools.
• Stake, prune, or remove trees using accepted methods.
• Spread general fertilizers onto grass using spreaders while under supervision and direction of superintendent.
• Follow planned landscaping designs to lay sod, sow seed, plant flowers and foliage, and lay decorative stone.
• Perform course setup including setting cups, moving tee markers, and raking bunkers.
• Gather and remove litter, limbs and other debris.
• Hand water dry-spots on greens and unroll and roll 1 diameter hoses.
• Inspect equipment daily; grease and fuel as needed. Report damage and malfunction.
• Wash and put away all equipment upon completion of task or work shift.
• Top-dress tees and greens with sand, backfill and level areas with dirt.
• Perform basic landscaping including planting and pruning of ornamentals and laying borders and edging.
• Build forms, pour, and finish concrete.
• Build and repair fencing.
• Paint and stain buildings, fences, and course accessories.
• Wear proper PPE and comply with and follow all safety policies when performing tasks.
• Provide assistance and support to other departments as needed.
• Perform other duties as required.

• City golf facilities are well maintained and provide quality of life to residents.
• Policies and procedures in City of Enid personnel manual and safety manual are understood, followed, and modeled for other employees.
• Effective relations exist with co-workers as well as with the public.

QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: No prior experience or training. CERTIFICATES/LICENSES: None. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. SKILLS/ABILITIES: Accurate and attentive to detail. Ability to assist and support others. PHYSICAL & MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION FINGER DEXTERITY: Manual dexterity sufficient to work with the fingers. VISUAL ABILITIES: Normal vision, with or without corrective lenses. PHYSICAL STRENGTH: PDC Level: Medium Employee lifts/carries 50 lbs occasionally (less than 33% of the time or 1-100 times per day). Moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily product/technical nature. Occasional overhead reaching and lifting, bending and kneeling. Periodic shoveling requiring lifting from ground to waist to shoulder. LANGUAGE/COMPREHENSION: Ability to communicate orally and distinguish minimal written language such as addresses and street signs. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables. MATHEMATICS ABILITY: Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding and subtracting two digit numbers, multiplying and dividing with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of money and weight or distance measurement. WORK SCHEDULE/HOURS: Seasonal Position Employment will not exceed four months in any 12 month period. 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday occasionally. Must be able to work some overtime for hand watering greens. Occasionally come in earlier for tournament setup. OtherVariable lunch period and breaks in coordination with other office personnel. WORK CONDITIONS: Outdoor exposed to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, wind, snow, etc.) and indoor shop environment with adequate ventilation. NOISE LEVEL: Loud. Hearing protection as required. OTHER WORK CONDITIONS: Occasional exposure to air contamination, fumes, or airborne particles. Work near moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure to vibration. ADVANCEMENT CRITERIA INTERMEDIATE 3-5 years related experience. High school/GED. Ability to fill in for Crew Worker for short period of time. Good application of safety as applies to job. Local tree trimming license. Valid Oklahoma Drivers License. Valid CPR certification. ADVANCED 6+ years related experience. Additional vocational training. Ability to fill in for Crew Worker for extended period of time. Advanced safety knowledge. Department of Agriculture Spraying License.
