SUMMARY
General Summary:This is high-level technical work performing maintenance and repair of fire protection systems, mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems and related trades with emphasis on fire systems. Work is performed under strict guidelines, time limitations and limited supervision. Follow guidelines for public safety, security and customer service. Work involves considerable contact with the public, contractors, inspectors, tenants and airport employees.
Salary: $52,083.20 - $81,390.40 Commensurate with Experience
Responsibilities:
Participates in the inspection, service, and repair of fire protection systems including: wet, dry, pre-action, deluge, foam suppression systems and dry chemical systems; as well as fire pumps and back flow devices. Inspect and ensure functionality of fire control panels, annunciators, pull stations, bells, audible devices, elevator recall, duct detectors thermal detectors, tamper switches, flow switches, ground fault circuitry, standby batteries and related equipment. Verify monitoring connections to building automation system in existing and new construction. Work closely with local fire and insurance inspectors to ensure code compliance and resolve issues. Coordinates between contractors, engineers, airport management and fire inspectors. Meets with contractors regarding issues that arise in the field. Direct the inspections of fire extinguishers and emergency exit lighting. Inspects assigned Airport construction projects. Coordinates work with contractors, inspectors and tenants. Works as Project Manager on assigned projects. Attends pre-bid and pre-construction conferences and answers questions about field conditions and special issues. Inspect equipment to determine needed repairs and necessary parts. Perform related work as required. Ensures that employees are informed of, safety rules, operating policies and personnel regulations. Subject to emergency call back for equipment repairs and inclement weather.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate/GED required with two years of experience or associates degree and one-year experience in a relevant work/industry/military/job specific experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties. One year of supervisory experience in related field required. Experience should be at least on a journeymans level working on large commercial building systems. NC Fire Sprinkler Maintenance Technician License preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Thorough knowledge of materials, methods and practices used in various types of airport construction
Thorough knowledge of methods, tools and materials used in fire protection systems and related trades.
Considerable knowledge of fire systems construction specifications, plans, codes, regulations, and materials
Knowledge of occupational hazards, environmental regulations, safety precautions and the ability to enforce adequate safety precautions against such hazards.
Excellent organizational and reasoning skills required, as well as the ability to follow directions, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and complete projects accurately and on schedule
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with tenants, inspectors, co-workers, contractors and the public, and represent the Airport in a professional manner.
Physical Requirements :
Spends majority of time walking and standing. Must be able to traverse a wide variety of active construction sites that may include exposure to machinery, moving objects/vehicles, scaffold and ladders. Works both inside and outside, with possible exposure to inclement weather. May also include exposure to dust, slippery, uneven surfaces, noise and vibrating tools. Works alone as necessary. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
General Information :
Works hours based on assigned projects. Schedule subject to overtime, irregular hours, including evenings and weekends based on assignment; also, schedule subject to change and emergency calls back to work.
Valid drivers license and ability to qualify for City driving permit.
Certain criminal convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
