The Opportunity
WSDOT Eastern Region (ER) is currently seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker 1 for the Rest Areas in Ritzville, WA. This position is responsible for performing routine rest area maintenance to include janitorial services, facility maintenance and landscaping activities at our Schrag, Sprague, Hatton, Telford and Keller Ferry Rest Areas. Must possess a willingness to work any shift, often for long hours on short notice, including weekends and holidays. This position requires a self-directed individual who takes independent action to resolve maintenance problems as they occur. Our ideal candidate will also demonstrate a strong commitment to customer service when responding to inquiries and complaints from the traveling public.
What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Highway Maintenance Worker will:
- Empty trash receptacles, pick up litter, dispose of waste a commercial disposal site.
- Perform lawn maintenance to include lawn mowing, with push mower, gas powered weed eaters, edges, and other landscape maintenance.
- Inspect assigned rest area for vandalism, abandoned vehicles, and unauthorized use
- Remove snow and ice from sidewalks and entrances.
- Professionally interact with the traveling public on a daily basis.
- Assist with providing information, possible vehicle issues etc.
- Take water samples on a monthly basis.
- Clean and maintain recreational vehicle dump stations; ensure they are in good working order.
- Maintain and disinfect restrooms.
Qualifications
- Valid drivers license
- First aid card or obtain within 6 months of hire date.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
- High school graduation or possession of a GED certificate.
- One (1) year of experience performing maintenance activities in a related field of work.
