Position Purpose:
The Lead Janitor ensures the maintenance of a safe and sanitary environment, and provides guidance and leadership to the janitorial team. This role is responsible for providing coverage for the upkeep of JWCH, Wesley Health Care facilities by ensuring the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall maintenance of the facilities. This role includes ensuring staff follow established protocols and safety guidelines while also filling in to cover janitorial/housekeeping duties when alternate coverage is not possible.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Train and mentor new janitorial team members on cleaning procedures and safety protocols.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure cleaning standards are met.
- Assist in assessing and improving client satisfaction regarding facility services.
- Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and polishing furniture.
- Clean and sanitize patient exam rooms, client rooms, bathrooms, laboratories, diagnostic testing areas, staff areas, offices, hallways, and waiting rooms.
- Clean and disinfect public restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and mirrors.
- Refill restroom supplies, such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
- Clean mirrors, windows, and glass partitions, and polish fittings and fixtures.
- Remove stains and maintain the appearance of carpets and rugs.
- Sort and separate recyclable materials from general waste.
- Follow proper disposal procedures for hazardous materials.
- Maintain security by properly locking doors and securing premises as required.
- Respond promptly to urgent cleaning or maintenance issues.
- Operate floor cleaning equipment, such as floor scrubbers and carpet cleaners.
- Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and mixing of cleaning and disinfecting materials following safety protocols.
- Coordinate with laundry services to maintain a supply of cleaning rags.
- Inform the Janitorial Supervisor and Manager of any cleaning equipment that needs repair or replacement.
- Clean and maintain outdoor garden areas, laundry rooms, computer labs, staff lounges, case manager offices, staff restrooms, hallways, utility rooms, and administrative offices.
- Clean community rooms by removing trash, sweeping, mopping, and wiping windows, mirrors, and counters.
- Follow procedures for properly cleaning medical equipment and adhere to sanitary guidelines, using appropriate mop heads for designated rooms.
- Follow all federal, state, and organizational policies, health codes, and highest standards of cleanliness.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in janitorial services within a healthcare environment, including at least 2 years in a lead role or similar role.
- Possess a valid CA Driver's License, clean driving record and the ability to travel to different sites.
- Basic computer skills, including email and web navigation.
- Ability to move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work varied hours/days, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Physical ability to constantly bend, stoop, and stretch.
- Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, equipment operation, and handling of cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
