Lead Custodian

Performs intermediate work as a lead custodian and participates in the care and cleaning of county buildings, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Custodial Division Manager. Limited supervision is exercised over the custodial staff.

This position will report to the Consolidated Human Services Building.

  • Oversees the work of custodial staff.
  • Ensures custodians are properly assigned to areas of responsibility.
  • Order supplies, receives delivery and distributes to appropriate areas.
  • Sweeps, mops and dusts offices and buildings; vacuums floor.
  • Washes windows, walls, woodwork, bathroom fixtures; operates carpet shampooer; vacuums and cleans carpets.
  • Cleans and supplies restrooms, hallways; refills soap, towel and tissue dispensers
  • Locks and unlocks doors; secures buildings as needed
  • Gathers and disposes of refuse, litter and trash; empties wastebaskets.
  • Checks equipment to ensure that it is in proper working order
  • Adheres to safety and custodial standards established by County policy
  • Helps set up building and rooms for activities and special events
  • Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions, frequently

requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and lifting and occasionally requires sitting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed

information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).General knowledge of a variety of maintenance and manual tasks involved in building cleaning and minor maintenance work; general knowledge in the use of common cleaning and maintenance tools; general knowledge of the safe use and operation of tools and equipment; ability to perform manual labor; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in maintenance and housekeeping, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements:

Valid driver license

Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.
