JOB PURPOSE: To maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment within the school building and swimming pool facility. This position supports the operational readiness and hygiene of the building and pool areas for students, staff, and public use.

Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities

1.Custodial and Pool Operations: Performs cleaning and sanitizing of assigned areas including classrooms, hallways, offices, restrooms, and the pool facility. Ensures the entire pool area, including the deck and locker rooms, is consistently clean, sanitary, and ready for daily operations. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, vacuums, and disinfects floors and surfaces throughout the facility. Empties trash receptacles, removes waste, and maintains tidiness of school grounds. Assists with seasonal snow and ice removal.

2.Maintenance Assistance: Replaces light bulbs and assists with routine building maintenance tasks. Performs basic pool maintenance tasks including monitoring circulation, filtration, and water chemistry systems in accordance with Certified Pool Operator (CPO) requirements. Coordinates with maintenance staff regarding any pool equipment repairs or concerns. Notifies supervisor of repair needs or safety hazards. Participates in floor care projects such as stripping, waxing, and carpet cleaning.

3.Safety and Security: Follows all KPBSD safety protocols and wears required personal protective equipment (PPE). Identifies and corrects safety hazards such as wet floors, icy entrances, or unsecured doors. Ensures facility is secured by locking doors and windows as required.

4.Team Collaboration: Sets up and takes down furniture or equipment for school events. Supports other custodial staff and responds to urgent cleaning or safety needs. Interacts courteously with staff, students, and visitors.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1.Requires knowledge of cleaning equipment, materials and procedures to perform cleaning tasks efficiently and effectively. Requires physical ability to operate hand held equipment and to perform active, physically demanding duties.

2.Requires basic knowledge of heating, electrical, plumbing and swimming pool systems, and basic knowledge of maintenance procedures.

3.Requires attention to detail and ability to recognize safety and security hazards. Requires ability to perform duties in a safe manner.

4.Requires willingness to perform various job-related duties as situations require a strong sense of teamwork, and ability to work cooperatively with others.

5.Employee will use appropriate respirator as prescribed by the Safety Manager and the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District respirator program.

6.Must have a current driver's license.

7.Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification is required. Candidates who do not currently possess the certification may be considered, provided they obtain it within a timeframe determined by the District after hire. Requires knowledge of OSHA & fire safety codes & laws. Must follow all required procedures and policies.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general and technical procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, custodial team and maintenance department employees.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
