Description

The Education and Labor Cabinet's mission is to educate, prepare and train Kentucky's current and future workforces. Our goal is to create and make continuous improvements to an education and workforce system that prepares Kentuckians for the 21st century workforce, while helping businesses find the skilled workers they need to compete and create jobs in the Commonwealth.

The cabinet is seeking to fill a Facility Maintenance Worker II position located within the Office of Administrative Services, Operations and Support Services, Property Management. This position is in Louisville, Kentucky.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Serves as the lead worker and coordinates the work of temporary staff involved in minor building repairs and office moves. Performs facility maintenance in the areas of construction, electrical, plumbing, and/or other building systems, as well as grounds upkeep.
  • Assists with the relocation of furniture and other assets as requested by ELC staff.
  • Performs janitorial duties and minor HVAC maintenance, and assists with the diagnosis of these systems, including the monitoring of our HAVC systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work within a team as well as independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems.
  • Must be able to lift and move heavy furniture and equipment.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: NONE

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of building maintenance, grounds maintenance, general trades, skilled trades, moving services, or mechanical maintenance experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Formal training in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age.

Working Conditions

Incumbents in this job title may be exposed to extreme temperatures which requires the following of safety procedures. Must follow safety procedures, such as utilization of eye and ear protection, when utilizing certain mechanical equipment.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
