The Building Maintenance Worker plays a vital role in maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of City-owned buildings. Under the direct supervision of the Fleet & Facilities Manager, this position performs routine and skilled maintenance tasks across various City facilities. Responsibilities include repairs, preventive upkeep, custodial duties, and responding to service requests in a timely and professional manner. The role requires attention to safety procedures, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team to ensure public facilities are operational, clean, and welcoming for staff and visitors. This position is essential in supporting the day-to-day operations of the City's infrastructure. Performs related work as assigned.
SALARY RANGE: $23.28 - $25.70 DOQESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Building Maintenance:
- Performs a wide range of building maintenance tasks including, but not limited to:
- Plumbing repairs
- Electrical troubleshooting and repair
- HVAC system maintenance and repair
- Carpentry and painting
- Sheetrock repair
- Power washing
- Furniture assembly and moving
- Changing light bulbs and doorknobs
- Troubleshoots and resolves facility maintenance issues.
- Coordinates with contractors for specialized repairs.
- Responds to work orders in a timely manner by utilizing technology to acknowledge, track, and close work orders digitally
- Communicates through email, verbal, and in writing in a timely and efficient manner.
- Performs other related work as directed.
Custodial Duties (performed on an as needed basis):
- Performs daily cleaning and sanitation of facilities, including restrooms, kitchens, and office spaces.
- Uses and/or ensures proper use and storage of cleaning chemicals.
- Services and operates cleaning equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaners, floor buffers).
- Responds to work orders in a timely manner by utilizing technology to digitally acknowledge, track, and close work orders.
- Communicates through email, verbally and/or in writing in a timely and efficient manner.
- Cleans equipment and tools after use and maintains cleanliness and order in storage areas and service vehicle.
- Reports facility maintenance needs upon detection to immediate supervisor.
- Performs other related work as directed.
Marginal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates initiative and diligence in the prompt and proper completion of all job duties and other duties assigned.
- Responsible for safeguarding City property.
- Maintaining confidentiality with regard to all City business.
- Performs other related work as directed.
Special Requirements:
- Regular and consistent attendance for assigned work hours is essential. Leave scheduled should be managed so as to not interfere with ability to accomplish tasks, including special projects and assignments with deadlines.
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, overtime including night callouts or after hours for special projects, special events, as needed.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations as required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
A. Education, Training, Experience and Licenses:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Six (6) months to one (1) year of work experience that demonstrates the ability to provide safe and effective maintenance of all City buildings, including any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses: Valid Texas Drivers license with an acceptable driving record to be maintained throughout employment.
B. Other Qualifications
- Must successfully pass pre-employment background check, physical exam, and drug screening.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
C. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong working knowledge of all phases of building maintenance, construction procedures, and custodial techniques.
- Proficiency in operating various tools and equipment and handling chemical cleaning agents including safety measures and precautions.
- Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- Knowledge and ability to use a tablet or personal computer and modern software including departmental task management software for completing daily tasks including maintenance work orders and data collection of various building systems.
- Ability to read and interpret in standard English, technical manuals, blueprints, and instructions.
- Ability to recognize and resolve problems applying general rules to produce logical solutions; assists staff, co-workers, and others with solutions to problems.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to assist in all phases of building maintenance, i.e., minor electrical repairs, plumbing repairs, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, sanitizing, recordkeeping, and preventative maintenance schedule.
- Ability to work independently or as part of the Building Maintenance Team by getting quotes from various contractors to perform maintenance such as plumbing, HVAC, and electrical work.
- Ability to be flexible so as to handle other assignments by supervisor.
D . Physical Demands and Working Conditions :
- Some tasks involve some physical effort, i.e., some standing and walking, or frequent light lifting (5-10 pounds); or minimal dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs, or body in the operation of shop or office equipment; may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
- Some tasks involve frequent walking, standing; some lifting and carrying of moderate weight (12-20 pounds); and/or the operation of vehicles, office, shop, or hand tools in which manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination are important ingredients of safe and/or productive operations.
- Some tasks involve the regular, and at times sustained, performance of heavier tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, working in confined spaces, and lifting or carrying heavy (20-50 pounds) items and occasionally heavier (100 pounds +) items.
