Lead Cook Job Summary:

The Lead Cook reports to the Chef Manager and plays a key role in delivering high-quality culinary results that exceed student and faculty expectations. This position may provide leadership to other kitchen staff, ensuring excellence in food production, service, and presentation. The Lead Cook will support the Chef with catering orders and general food preparation as needed. They should bring strong culinary skills, a focus on quality, and a commitment to creating a positive dining experience within a school environment.

Lead Cook Responsibilities:

  • Monitor sanitation practices to ensure that employees follow standards and regulations.

  • Prepare and cook foods of all types on a regular basis and for special functions.

  • Check the quality of raw or cooked food products to ensure that standards are met.

  • May lead cooks or other workers in the preparation, cooking, garnishing, and presentation of food.

  • May coordinate activities of employees engaged in food preparation.

  • Inspect supplies, equipment, or work areas to ensure conformance to established standards.

  • Determine how food should be presented and create decorative food displays.

  • Collaborate with management to develop recipes or menus, taking into account such factors as seasonal availability of ingredients or the likely number of customers.

  • Assist Chef with demonstration of new cooking techniques or equipment to staff.

  • Assist Chef with ordering, receiving and inventory of products.

  • Adhere to and promote company standards for safety, proper food handling practices, sanitation, uniform guidelines, and productivity.

  • May assist in supporting culinary staff at numerous stations as directed.

  • Provide excellent customer service to include being attentive, approachable, greeting and thanking customers.

  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Lead Cook Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 1 - 3 years' experience in food service

  • Previous customer service experience

Preferred Education and Experience

  • ServSafe Certification
