Position Summary:
The Custodian performs housekeeping duties in accordance with established standards and instruction in order to maintain a safe, comfortable, and clean learning environment for students, staff, and the public. The Custodian works effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. This is an essential personnel position. This position must report to work or remain at work as directed to provide emergency services such as snow/ice removal or other emergency related services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
Perform housekeeping duties to include, but not limited to: sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping and waxing floors; vacuum & shampoo rugs and carpets; clean and dust furniture; clean and service lavatories, toilet rooms, restrooms and food service/dining areas; wash windows, window sills and frames.
Wash and/or clean interior wall spaces by hand or with powered wall washing machines, working on ladders and scaffolding, as required.
Remove trash and recycling from buildings.
Operate all related custodial equipment, to include but not limited to, upright vacuum cleaners, backpack vacuum cleaners, electric buffers, and carpet extractors.
Maintain communications via two-way radio while on campus.
Check e-mail on a daily basis
Remove snow and/or ice from steps, sidewalks, and parking areas using shovels snow blowers, tractors, and other snow removal equipment.
Maintain and ensure proper use of supplies equipment and chemicals.
Report to work, or remain at work, as directed during adverse conditions as essential personnel, even if the College is closed or delayed.
Provide custodial coverage for weekend events as scheduled.
Perform inspections and light maintenance, as directed.
Assist in set-ups, loading and unloading of equipment and supplies, as necessary.
Move heavy furniture, supplies and miscellaneous equipment, as directed.
As a designated Essential Personnel position, the Custodians are required to report for work or remain at work as directed, even if the College is closed or delayed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma
Ability to lift, move, carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and ascend and descend stairs
Experience communicating via e-mail.
Desired Qualifications
Two (2) years of commercial housekeeping experience
Experience using equipment utilized for commercial custodial services
Experience with the proper use and control of custodial chemicals
Work Schedule
10:30PM to 7:00AM Sunday to Thursday
