Job Title: Custodian
Position Summary:
Douglas Education Center is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Full-Time Custodian to join our facilities team. This role is essential in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across multiple campus buildings and student housing. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, reliable, and capable of working independently or collaboratively. Previous cleaning experience is required.
Experience, Skills & Requirements:
Valid and current PA driver's license
Must have strong attention to detail and time management
Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
Work ethic, reliability, dependable, punctual, and proactive mind set needed
Must demonstrates a strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information
Safe handling and application of cleaning agents and maintenance chemicals
Knowledgeable in the proper use of disinfectants across facilities, classrooms, and student housing
Experience in carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical, mechanical, and painting work to assist the Maintenance Technicians is a plus!
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

Duties & Responsibilities:
Cleaning & Facility Upkeep
Clean and maintain buildings, including offices, classrooms, and student housing
Gather and empty trash and recyclable
Service, clean, and restock restrooms
Clean and polish furniture and fixtures
Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors
Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment
Steam-clean or shampoo carpets, sweep, mop and vacuum
Move furniture, equipment, and supplies
Perform routine maintenance tasks (e.g., replacing light bulbs, filters, smoke detectors)
Monitor building security and safety (e.g., locking doors, checking appliances)
Prepare vacant student housing units for new occupancy
Event & Grounds Support
Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, and chairs for events and meetings
Perform seasonal outdoor maintenance including:
Snow removal and salting
Lawn mowing and trimming
Leaf and debris removal
Schedule & Compensation
Full-time position, typically M-F 6:00am-2:30pm with unpaid hour lunch, hours could change to non-operational hours in future
Must be available for occasional schedule adjustments to support campus events, with advance notification
Must be available for occasional after-hours emergency support
Compensation commensurate with experience
