Maintenance Worker - Water Distribution

This position is responsible for participating in City maintenance of water infrastructure.

As the new Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for participating in the maintenance of the sewer conveyance system.

  • Troubleshoot basic maintenance problems involving the City of Savannah water infrastructure repair or replacement;
  • Performs various repairs.
  • Performs preventative and routine maintenance.
  • Assist crew members with the repair or replacement of the City of Savannah water infrastructure.
  • Uses various equipment to complete the repair or replacement
  • Operates City of Savannah vehicles
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
High School diploma or GED equivalent; six (6) months of related maintenance experience necessary.

A valid driver's license is required

May require the following certifications/licenses:
  • Confined Space Safety Certification
  • ICS100 and ICS700
  • Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Traffic control Flagging certification

Additional Requirements
Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post-offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of equipment and tools necessary to perform essential duties.
Knowledge of job-related safety hazards and precautionary methods
Skill in establishing priorities and organizing work.
Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles and equipment.
Skill in oral communication.

Minimum Standards

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Supervisor assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES: Guidelines include the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related maintenance duties. Inclement weather and heavy traffic conditions contribute to the complexity of the position.

SCOP EAND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to assist in the performance of maintenance duties.

PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, and members of the general public.

PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, provide services, and resolve problems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, stooping, or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed outdoors. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: None.
