SUMMARY

Under the director of the Executive Director of Auxiliary Services and the Frontline Coordinator, the Frontline Worker Barista provides support with a variety of food service operation tasks such as cleaning work areas and equipment, set up, cooking food, serving food, POS duties, barista.

Hours of this position are Monday- Thursday 7:00am-4:30pm

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Acts with integrity, honesty and knowledge that promote the culture, values and mission of Jackson College.
  • Maintains a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to keep the store operating to standard.
  • Anticipates customer and store needs by constantly evaluating the environment and customers for cues.
  • Assists with new Barista training by positively reinforcing successful performance and giving respectful and encouraging coaching as needed.
  • Delivers customer service to all customers by acting with a customer first attitude and connecting with the customer. Discovers and responds to customer needs.
  • Follows Jackson College operational policies and procedures, including those for cash handling and safety and security, to ensure the safety of all partners during each shift.
  • Maintains a clean, organized and stocked workspace so that customers can locate resources and products as needed.
  • Provides quality beverages, whole bean, and food products consistently for all customers by adhering to all recipe and presentation standards. Follows health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products.
  • Preparing and serving beverages, ranging from simple to elaborate ones
  • Answering customers' questions about menu choices
  • Promoting and recommending menu options to customers
  • Taking payment from customers
  • Maintaining inventory and equipment by cleaning, reporting equipment malfunctions to the Dining Director
  • Evaluating and recommend modifying processes to improve efficiency and quality of service, participate in recipe creation and expanding the menu
  • Responsible for understanding, supporting and actively demonstrating the College's beliefs, values, mission and vision and being in agreement to be evaluated by same.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibility.

CONTACTS AND PURPOSE OF CONTACTS

Internal: Frequent contact with college employees regarding dining services and catering orders.

External: Frequent contact with customers regarding cafeteria operations and special events catering.

  • Use effective interpersonal skills to successfully communicate with the general public.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships.

The knowledge, skills and abilities required are often obtained by a High school diploma or GED.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequent reaching, walking, standing, lifting, stooping, or carrying of equipment and materials may be required. Incumbents may be required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Incumbent may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, and fumes.

WORK ENVIROMENT

Work is generally performed in a commercial cafeteria environment, with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. Work hours may vary and frequent evening and weekend hours are required. Travel may be required.
