Are you passionate about keeping spaces clean, safe, and welcoming? Do you have an eye for detail and a knack for fixing things? Assumption High School, an affiliate of Scott County Catholic Schools, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Custodian/Maintenance Technician to join our team full-time!

About the Role

As our Custodian/Maintenance Technician, you will help create a vibrant and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors alike. This is a hands-on position that combines the vital responsibilities of routine school cleaning with essential building and grounds maintenance. You will work daytime hours with the support of the Principal and the Director of Maintenance.

Key Responsibilities Maintenance Duties
  • Perform minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs throughout the school.
  • Check and maintain light fixtures, replace bulbs and ballasts as needed.
  • Ensure mechanical systems (boilers, A/C, water heaters, etc.) are operational and ready for use.
  • Collaborate with inspectors and service providers for systems such as fire alarms, water sprinklers, pest control, radon and water testing, asbestos management, and more.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance—cleaning, lubricating, changing belts/filters, draining water heaters, and cleaning HVAC units.
  • Inspect playgrounds, pest traps, restroom facilities, and overall building grounds, keeping detailed documentation and addressing any issues found.
  • Perform seasonal tasks including snow removal, gutter and roof inspection, and landscaping around the school campus.
  • Participate in monthly and annual maintenance such as checking fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, and cleaning all school windows and air return grates.
Cleaning Duties
  • Maintain general cleanliness and repair for all school facilities and grounds.
  • Order and restock cleaning and paper products with approval.
  • Keep all storage rooms, janitor closets, mechanical rooms, and sheds organized and clean.
  • Clean hallways, lockers, restrooms, offices, classrooms, and building entry door glass daily.
  • Provide cafeteria cleanup during and after meal times; disinfect water fountains, doorknobs, and handrails regularly.
  • Vacuum carpets as needed and dust mop tile/gym floors.
  • Remove classroom trash and ensure proper waste and branch disposal on school grounds.
What We’re Looking For
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience with general carpentry, repairs, and the safe use of power and hand tools.
  • Effective communicator with both children and adults.
  • Active and clear driver’s license.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and perform physically demanding tasks (lifting up to 50 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 75 lbs).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, and the ability to follow supervisor instructions.
